Am aware that the responses may vary wildly but still would like to get an idea. Had a sweep and am 2 cm dilated and wondered how long it took other to get from this stage to babe in arms...

Is it a first baby?

Pascha · 10/09/2012 17:36

I had a sweep at 12.30pm at my AN appointment, I was 3cm dilated. First contraction just before 10pm that night, baby in my arms at 5.11am next morning.

Sweep to first contraction - 9.5 hours
First contraction to baby - 7 hours
Sweep to baby - 16.75 hours

I had a sweep at 2.30pm was 3cm. Dd2 was born at 3.39am. Pains started around 10.30pm and I was 40+13

She was dc3 so I am probably permanently 3cm dilated anyway! Grin

Was my first baby too.

teachertrainer80 · 10/09/2012 17:43

Pascha 16.75 hours. I like it, let's hope it goes that way for me!

Mike even better, but yeah, if DC3 I'm sure things are speedier!

Hmm. By my timings you should feel your first contractions around midnight Grin Of course, it could be a couple of days instead...

furrygoldone · 10/09/2012 18:20

I'm almost loathed to post, but 8 days, during which I had a further 3 sweeps, 2 pessaries before finally going on the drip. I also walked about 100 miles and when I wasn't walking I was on an exercise ball. First sweep was at 40 weeks though, so you may be more fortunate if you're already further along. Good luck.

TheLittleFriend · 10/09/2012 20:13

With dd I had a sweep and was 2cm at about 4pm. Was fully dilated when I arrived back at hospital at 6am. Babe in arms at 6.35am. Good luck! Smile

Sweep did nothing for me, baby came 10 days later :)

HillyandHally · 10/09/2012 20:19

Sweep on monday morning at 40+6 and was 2cm dilated. Contractions didn't start properly till Friday 11pm ish. Was all really quick once it got going, got to hospital about 4.30am 7cm dilated and DD born at 09.23 on sat morning. Good luck - just do nice things for yourself while you're waiting Smile

Katienana · 10/09/2012 20:31

When do they normally do your first sweep? If you beg for one before 40wks will they do it?

furrygoldone · 10/09/2012 20:52

I had one at 40 weeks as they found some issues at my term appointment which meant I was booked to be induced at 40+5, they gave me a sweep because I was dilated enough just to see if it would get things going so I could avoid induction. This time round my midwife has said that the earliest I can have one is 41 weeks, but that they may still offer me one at the 40 week appointment if they feel so inclined.

gallicgirl · 10/09/2012 21:00

First baby. About 14 hours from sweep to 1st contraction then another 14 hours to birth.
Enjoy the wait.

PMMummy · 10/09/2012 21:03

2cm - 3cm - 3 days!!
4cm - birth - 28 minutes !!!

Apparently I just 'wouldn't labour' ?!?!?
