Anyone want to join me for the two week (scan) wait?

It's two weeks on Tuesday until my first scan. Obviously it's on my mind. Anyone else have their scan coming up? I've decided to try to trick myself away from it by pretending it's the two week wait to find out if I'm pg. Of course that will fail miserably. Hmmm.

I have my scan on the 26th, so just over 2 weeks away. I'll be 13 weeks by then and it seems like an age away. Even with the lack of a period, huge boobs, astounding morning sickness and, of course, several +ve PG tests I still can't quite believe there's a baby in there.

I read on another thread something which I liked: Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise or PUPO for short which is the positive attitude I'm trying to adopt.

How many weeks are you phil?

philbee · 09/09/2012 19:58

I think I'm trying to adopt the other attitude, 'suffering from unexplained pregnancy symptoms until proven pregnant', or just not think about it! DH keeps pointing out that I probably would have had my period if I wasn't. And the, ahem, five tests.

I'm 9 weeks, so the scan is a bit early really. I was pg last year though and had a missed miscarriage, it started at just over 12 weeks, before the routine scan, so I'm happy to have it this time before I get to that stage.

I also can't believe there's a baby in there. I'm kind of leaving that bit as a sort of abstract incomprehensible thing and just focusing on getting through the tiredness etc. And wondering when to get my Big Bras down from the loft. At the moment I have a great imprint of the pattern of my normal bra all over my boobs when I manage to peel them off at night. Not comfy. But last time I was full on in the maternity gear by week 10 or so and it was hard putting it all away again a few weeks later. Sorry, what a massive downer! I was intending this to be light hearted!

Maybe we should plan some very absorbing pasttimes for the next few weeks - a 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle or something?

That must have been awful, to get to 12 weeks the apparent 'safe zone' and to then miscarry. It's no surprise you feel nervous and apprehensive and even trying to play things down a bit, a kind of self-preservation?

I also had a MC, in January of this year. I was only about 5-6 weeks but it's still made me worry now I'm PG again. I don't remember panicking at every twinge with my DD. However, I feel completely different in this PG to how I felt back in January. That was doomed from the start, I think, I felt awful from day 1 and didn't stop feeling awful until the bleeding stopped. It wasn't normal PG awful, it was wrong awful.

How are you feeling phil, different from last time?

philbee · 09/09/2012 20:22

I'm sorry you've been through it too - it's a horrible horrible thing, isn't it? I was only a day over 12 weeks, but you're right, you think 'right, that's done now'.

I feel exactly the same as last time, tbh. Slight morning sickness, big tiredness. I even have SPD symptoms starting now, and it came on at 9 weeks last time. So it's a bit creepy, tbh, and I think 'maybe it's not SPD, maybe this it the beginning of the mc'. But I can't remember anything that different with DD, which was four years ago, so I don't think it's significant. Argh! Where's that blasted jigsaw puzzle?

can I come in too please Smile I'm 8 weeks do bit longer to wait but had private scans with dd and ds but now I only work part time finances mean I can't justify £100 on a scan so have to wait Wink

carrielou2007 · 09/09/2012 20:57

Sorry for your mc and mac Blush

carrielou2007 · 09/09/2012 20:57

Omg excuse thd spelling, have had eye op so can't see autocorrects very well

lurcherlover · 09/09/2012 21:03

I'm in the same boat guys...pregnant for the third time - I sailed through my first pregnancy (apart from spd right at the end but I think everyone gets a bit of that) and had my lovely ds who is completely healthy if bonkers. Then got pregnant again and was completely blase about it after having an easy pregnancy first time round. I swanned into the dating scan looking forward to taking my picture home and telling everyone our happy news, only to be told that there was no heartbeat and the baby had died at 9 weeks. I had had no pain or bleeding so it was a total shock. That was in May. I had an erpc, had one period and then conceived again, and am now 8 weeks. I had a scan at 6 weeks on the NHS which showed a heartbeat, and I'm not entitled to any more for reassurance unless I have any bleeding, so I've booked a private one for 27th Sept when I should be 10+4 if all is well. I'm so scared though that something will have gone wrong again. The next two weeks are going to drag...

carrielou2007 · 09/09/2012 21:29

I'm booked for another eye op in a weeks time so hoping to beg/plead for a scan after Blush I had two mc before the dc and I have no symptoms (dudn't with either dc) so really struggling to believe there won't just be a blank screen at my scan Blush

RightUpMyRue · 10/09/2012 08:29

This is fast turning into PG after MC thread! Is there anyone left who hasn't had an MC?!

SkinnyMarinkADink · 10/09/2012 09:05

Hello can i join in?

i am 21 weeks but also have a 2 week wait to 3rd scan, they couldnt make out the full chambers of the heart last week so I've got to go back.

I had a mc a few years back, again like some of you it was at the 12 weeks scan i found out. totally awful to go through, subsequent pregnancies are always harder as its in the back of your mind.

philbee · 10/09/2012 09:24

No worries about the spelling, carrielou, made me laugh. It's as if you're commiserating with one of us about our mc, and the other about our choice of rainwear! Grin Eye operations sound difficult - I hope the next one goes well.

So sorry to hear that everyone else has had mcs as well. It's really grim, isn't it? And stays with you for a long time.

lurcher - glad your reassurance scan went well. They don't do them here, although I think if I did a bit of breaking down in the appropriate appointment they'd give me one. After my mc I asked the EPU sister about getting pregnant again, and her first words were 'we don't do reassurance scans, you know.' And when I asked for a fertility referral (we tried for a year this time), 'you won't get IVF you know.' Like I'd asked about either of those things Hmm.

skinny how do you feel about it? It must be hard to have to wait again for more investigation. I hope it's all fine.

I am not panicing at the minute. if i get there at 23 weeks and they still have problems i will probably worry, i have a baby that likes to hide, neither scan pictures show the baby properly, my early preg scan showed a frog, the second was a blur and this one last week we could make out the spine lol.

if she is anything like my husband she is being awkward for the sake of it and hiding away.

katiecubs · 10/09/2012 13:35

Just a little interesting fact - there are currently 3.6 cases of listeria reported per million people in the UK. The risk is extremely, extremely tiny and if you eat cheese that has been stored/prepared properly (i.e not left sitting outside in the sun all day) then it's likely to be none at all.

katiecubs · 10/09/2012 13:35

oops wrong thead!

us4downhere · 10/09/2012 16:27

Grin at Katiecubs but thanks for the info!!

I am 9 weeks (I think) and have my first midwife appt on Thurs, so hopefully a scan in the next few weeks!

This is DC3 but I am still very excited about it all!!

RightUpMyRue · 10/09/2012 16:44

Mmmm, cheese. Thanks katie Grin

RightUpMyRue · 11/09/2012 17:55

2 weeks today phil. How's the jigsaw coming?

Dannilion · 11/09/2012 19:07

I've got my scan 2 weeks today too!

As an attempt to distract myself I've signed myself up for some 60 hours of work this week, in the hope I'll be too tired to clockwatch....But nope, instead I am too tired to work. Until it comes to bedtime, then I am wide awake Angry

Aaaaaaah the things I would do for 3 bottles a glass of wine!

philbee · 11/09/2012 22:01

Hi rue. Have been distracted from my jigsaw by DD's first days at school. Then work for the rest of the week, so that should be fairly distracting! Then it's back to the puzzle at the weekend! Grin

In my mind I have a little recurring thing where I alternately compose an email to my boss saying I'm pg, and one saying I need time off because I'm having a mc. Glorious fun, eh? Have to try to forget about those!

How is everyone else doing?

Welcome dannillion. I am worried about how work will go over next few weeks too, although am part time so not so bad. I am queasy but chipper in the morning, basically comatose 12-7, then full of beans again. Hard to get things done.
