Pregnancy eczema?

I get eczema anyway, especially if I'm stressed, but it's usually not too bad if I avoid dairy. Now Ive got HG and plain yoghurt is one of the few things I can eat, and my eczema's gone crazy. GP gave me steroids and said don't use them for more than two weeks.. Well thanks, it's been 2 months now!

Don't know if there's much to be done but wondered if anyone wanted to commiserate..

Hi Katolla

I want to commiserate! I get it anyway but have it particularly bad on my hands and wrists at the moment. Have given up trying to get rid of it and am now just trying to manage it day to day. I'm putting it down to the fact that I'm pregnant and my hands are permanently hot/sweaty. Under these conditions and the fact that I'm washing/doing things with my hands constantly it's impossible to clear it. I'm hoping once I've had the baby they might return to normal. The doctor also prescribed me a steroid ointment but I try not to use too often. Other than that I try to moisturise as much as possible and put them in a pillow case when they're really bad! I've always found that soft cotton on hot eczema feels good.

Hope you get some let up from it soon, it's such a miserable condition to live with. x

I had it when I was a child but thought I had grown out of it. When I was Preg with ds it came back really bad. Hands, elbows and neck. I avoided anything on prescription but did get some relief from a homeopathic cream that a therapist made up especially. Unfortunately it's continued since ds was born and still have it now 14 months later. I did wonder if it was hormone triggered as still breastfeeding. Will be interested If it improves after ds weans or if it's just a coincidence.

I spoke to a doctor on the phone yesterday who said I could use the strong steroids for another couple of weeks. Such a good night's sleep last night!

dickiedoodah that must be awful on your hands! Constantly being irritated. Mine are mostly low traffic areas except under my bra :| What week are you?

Jakeyblueblue don't tell me it doesn't go away after the birth!?

I had mild eczema as a child but hadn't suffered for years until I was pregnant with DD (funnily enough I didn't get it at all when pregnant with DS). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my DD is now 2.5 and it still hasn't cleared up. I'm now pregnant with DC3 so watching this thread with interest....

Oh that's good you were able to get some sleep and doc has given you go ahead on steroids for next couple of weeks. I'm currently 38+1 so really hoping I see a change once my little person is here. I'm trying to get the baby to arrive early for the sake of my hands!
