Night time loo trips

Am only 9+6 but am getting up to the loo once or twice each night. I understand the reasons for this - kidneys working overtime as body makes extra blood to support placenta etc - but is this going to keep happening throughout the pregnancy?

I guess I just feel it's a bit unfair that at a time when I'm tired anyway, and am looking ahead to sleepless nights with a baby I'm being kept awake now, too! Any tips for reducing frequency?

Strangely, am not noticing increased freqency of trips during the day. I'm also not having any caffeine so don't think diruetics could be an issue...

I needed the loo more in the first trimester, then it eased off in the second trimester, just starting to ramp up again now at 27 weeks. So you may find it improves (albeit temporarily) in the middle. I think it's associated with the bloating that also happens in 1st trimester which also seems to calm down in the 2nd.

I tried not to drink anything for at least an hour pre-bedtime and found it helped to pee twice before bed (second time to ensure you've really drained the tank iyswim)

My record is now 5 times in one night, plus going before bed and when I woke up. I'm 33 weeks though. And as minipie says it did ease off in the second trimester only to come back with a vengeance.
I don't drink anything after dinner time.
Apparently leaning forward while you're on the loo helps empty as much as poss too.

It eased off for me in the second trimester, but is worse than ever in the third. I've tried not drinking for a couple of hours before bedtime, and also wriggling around when I'm on the loo to squeeze out as much as possible, but either way I can't avoid going at least once a night.
And now (32+5) it's not just needing the loo that's the problem, but also being completely incapable of finding a position to sleep in that's even vaguely comfortable.
Starting to think that my sleep will actually improve with a newborn, rather than get worse...

It eased off for me at about 14 weeks. My record was 6 in one night. Now nearly 19 weeks, and I still go at least once during the night (although I always have done).

Don't drink less, you'll end up dehydrated. It should ease off once your uterus moves up and off your bladder.

Another vote for better in 2nd trimester and worse against in 3rd. I am up between 1 and 4 times a night now at 36 weeks and more frequently in the day. When I get Braxton Hicks I feel like I'm going to wee myself until they ease off, even when I know my bladder is empty!

BettyandDon · 07/09/2012 16:14

I didnt notice this until about 20 weeks. It didn't let up at all in the 2nd trimester for me - been the same /worse and I'm now 30 wks. I am not drinking after 830 and going to the loo as much as I can before bed.

My MW said when you're finished try to go again and to sit forward when you do it (meant to empty bladder). I don't think it's a great idea to cut down on fluids although I have been doing this I am also drinking in the night when I get up to pee as I'm thirsty. My DD is waking us up too and with this peeing there are nights when I get 3 hours sleep :(

Londonmrss · 07/09/2012 16:16

I'd LOVE to go only once or twice a night...

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 07/09/2012 16:20

I've been like that worse actually the whole way through, sorry!

Pickles77 · 07/09/2012 16:22

My record is 7 this week I'm 37 weeks and beginning to think I need nappies Smile

BonaDea · 07/09/2012 16:52

Hmmm, ladies you have not exactly filled me with confidence, although at least I know i'm not alone!! I'm definitely doing the double-pee just before bed - have a wee, brush teeth, wash face, wee again. But it only lasts me until about 2.30 am, then again about 4.30 am then up. Just hope it doesn't get worse!

Im 36 weeks and I honestly every night have about 3-4 wees whilst watching TV in bed and then about 5-8 in the night - it's driving me a little bit mad (but am on maternity leave, so least don't have to get up for work) always was a big wee-er!

Thechick · 07/09/2012 18:25

It's been all the way through so far for me and I'm almost 30 weeks. I go on average 3 or 4 times a night and I usually only drink at work, so have my last drink at about 4.30 to 5.00.

Jakeyblueblue · 07/09/2012 20:50

It gets you used to having to get up to a hungry baby for the next year or more Grin

Splinters · 07/09/2012 22:40

I didn't have this at all in the first trimester, but I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and suddenly going to the loo ALL THE TIME. What's going on?

Yorkstar · 07/09/2012 22:50

I was like this from the moment my body realised I was pregnant to the moment I gave birth with both my dc. Was more like 6/7 times a night last trimester. Was shit! Hope it improves for you but for others I'm afraid it doesn't.
