Gender at 20 week scan

Hi, I asked the sex of dc3 yesterday at my scan and the sonographer had a look. I told her my boys wanted a brother and she said I think they are going to be disappointed! She continued the rest of the scan referring to baby as she. At the end she had another look and showed us the bottom, the lack of testicles which is what she said they look for and explained the three lines that indicate a girl ( however I didn't see these).

How accurate do you think identifying the gender is at 20 weeks? Was any one told a girl and then went on have a boy?

I'm pretty sure that if the sonographer could see the three lines clearly then chances are it's a girl!

Nothing is a hundred percent but congrats on the news :)

I had a private scan at 17 weeks and was told 2 girls. My 20 week NHS scan confirmed this. I have had 3 dreams where one is a boy! Will find out in 5 weeks!

Congratulations on DC3!

I was told the 3 white lines are pretty definitive but then there are always people who pop up on here who heard that too and ended up with boys... :)

My best friends brother was told they were having a girl, got rid of all there blue things from ds1 and sure enough ds2 appeared!

They can occasionally make mistakes, but it sounds in your case like the sonographer got a pretty good look and was fairly sure that it's a girl. Especially if she double checked and pointed it out to you.

Congratulations :)

Ours told us we were having a girl at 20 weeks and was fairly confident. Had a growth scan at 36 weeks and she checked again and it's still a little girl :) Much more obvious now too :)

I think mix ups and mistakes can happen but I think it's fairly unusual.

I was told I'm having a boy, was pretty obvious for me to see. Have had a couple of other scans and when they where checking legs again was very clear it's a boy. So much that every person scans asks do I no what I'm having while quickly trying to hide it.

So far everyone I know has been told right. But if you get another scan later on ask then as well. If you wanna double check

Hi we just had our 20 weeks scan with DC3 this morning and were also told a girl, but could very clearly see the three lines. We already have 2DD's and their scans looked the same as this one. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! I never imagined a daughter since I have 2 DS already. It's hard to believe what you've been told sometimes. Still think I won't believe it until I see it when she is born!

my cousin was told she was having a girl bought all pink stuff and it turned out to be a boy, i had 3d scan done as they are generally more accurate as you can see for yourself what sex it is.
