Any pregnant Type 1 diabetics?

Hi,
I'm looking for other pregnant Type 1 diabetics in London, just to have someone to keep in contact with and share advice/horror stories/support each other etc.
I don't actually know anyone at all with Type 1, despite having had it myself since 1989

Glad it's not just me!! At this class, when you sign in you have to write beside your name how many weeks you are, and you then spend the rest of the night trying to guess which is the woman at 29 weeks, which is just 10 weeks etc. I ALWAYS get it wrong.

Last week there was a girl there at 26 weeks who was WAY smaller than me when I'm not pregnant (and I'm a size 12-14 and tall so not overweight!). Then this week I guessed the girl who was 16 weeks was actually 10 weeks and vice versa for the other one. Am dreading the comments starting!!

Am also peed off at stupid anterior placenta which means I'm STILL waiting to actually feel baby moving. I know it doesn't do the baby any harm, but was sooo looking forward to starting to feel regular flutters esp as I have seen and heard that it is so wriggly! Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 16/11/2012 13:55

I'm massive and was bigger than everyone at a class on Monday. All bump though. Old stretch marks horrendously painful. Can hardly get myself off the sofa and takes an hour to roll over in bed! BUT in four weeks I will have my baby!

dieciocho · 16/11/2012 14:37

On looking at my diary, I can see that I've not had a hypo for a week now. While this is good in some ways, it does make me think that I need to raise my Levemir a touch because readings of 8 have taken the place of the readings of 2.

Re: size, older women at work keep telling me I've "exploded" over the last month. Thanks!
Although, one of my students is carrying her second baby and is about 10 weeks behind me - she's the same size as me.

Last night DP said "Oh, you're properly pregnant now!"
Yes, idiot; I KNOW, I've been very aware of this whole thing for 6 1/2 months. It's just you who's had his head in the flipping sand!

Sorry, rant over. Maybe...

Tee hee!

I have to say my DH doesn't know what to do with himself either really. I REALLY think he is going to get the shock of his life in March. The whole thing is clearly very theoretical for him at the moment! He's not really getting it, I fear!

dieciocho · 16/11/2012 16:45

Exactly Bona, my DP's a bit like a child. Apparently, the bump is boring because it's not kicking wildly enough for him to feel it yet he's not patient enough to sit and wait

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 16/11/2012 16:54

Dp doesn't seem as interested in this bump as dd. doesn't care for feeling him kick and certainly hasn't been helping me out like he did first time round. I suppose it's different for men though they say a woman is a mum from the day she finds out she's pregnant and a man a dad from when the baby's born!

BonaDea · 16/11/2012 16:57

My DH asssures me that none of his friends were really interested in any of their babies until they were waaaaay more interactive - like 18 months or something. Of course they love them, but just not so sure it is quite such an instant bond.

dieciocho · 16/11/2012 17:17

I've felt really angry towards my DP today and last night when he kept complaining OFFSthat I was keeping him awake/waking him up - I have to wee in the night and I have to roll over frequently when my hips start hurting. Does he think I like having broken sleep?
I hope it's just pregnancy hormones and that I'll be back in love with him when the baby arrives.
I am now considering sleeping/getting him to sleep in the spare room for the next 9 weeks.

OK, I spoke too soon re: no hypos, I had a 1.9 in the middle of the night last night after having got the munchies at about 22:00 and eaten a snack coupled with 4u of Novorapid.

OP posts:
RueDeWakening · 17/11/2012 08:42

I had one at 4.45 this morning, too - and was 2.7 when I woke up at 7.30! There's clearly something in the water Grin

Mylittlepuds · 17/11/2012 09:44

Well on balance I think I'm jealous of your hypos! Maybe not the 1.9...did you feel okay? Or really bad Diec?

I went to bed on 9ish, had a correction dose. Woke up a 2.30am - still 9! Had another bleary eyed correction dose and woke up this morning at 9 Sad

My CGM says I've been 9 ALL night. I feel quite worried about it. Do you reckon at 17 weeks it's okay to have a bad night? Normally I'm really good throughout the night it's the days I have to worry about

SpottyTeacakes · 17/11/2012 09:46

It'll be ok puds, it's just one night.

I'm so thirsty I was putting off my list breakfast test as I was convinced it would be about 16 but was 5.5!

Mylittlepuds · 17/11/2012 10:23

Love it when that happens Spotty. I almost wince when I'm doing the test and then when the number isn't what you thought its like 'oh!'.

I've been really thirsty lately too. A couple of times I've tested for ketones as it's the kind of thirst when I'm certain I've got them - but nothing! I'm just putting it down to the pregnancy and not diabetes related.

dieciocho · 17/11/2012 16:16

Yeah, I've had the dreaded I-must-be-high thirst a few times - I think it's because we're weeing more than normal.

Actually Puds, I was quite happy with my 1.9 - strange, I know, but I woke up feeling shaky and it's been ages since I've felt like that, so it was as if my hypo awareness was returning. After 20-odd years my hypo sense is pretty dull crap.

OP posts:
dieciocho · 19/11/2012 08:04

I spoke too soon about my dinner doses being the same as pre-pregnancy - they've doubled.
So I now average about 30u of Novorapid per day. I've discovered that a handful of dried fruit and some nuts can do me for breakfast (as long as I'm not teaching first thing) and only requires about 8u of insulin to keep me balanced.

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2012 08:07

I woke up at 3.9 this morning, I'm happy with that, would you guys be? I know it's ever so slightly low but I feel so much better starting the day on a lower level.

My dinner ones have hardly gone up, say 1.5u/10g rather than 1

dieciocho · 19/11/2012 08:16

Yes, Spotty, I'd be happy.

OP posts:
BonaDea · 19/11/2012 09:53

spotty I'd definitely be happy with that. BUT when you're writing up the bg diary, put it in as a 4.0 to save yourself the lecture! Wink

Have not had great overnight readings either the last few days, so am finally going to adjust my nighttime levemir (so far my levemir has stayed steady, it's been the novo ratios which have gone wild). Already put it up by 2 units over the weekend, but it seems it is not enough. Woke at 1.45 am last night at 6.5 but was 9.0 by the time I got up. Will pop it up by another unit tonight I think.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2012 09:57

I treated myself to a Brioche for breakfast Grin

BonaDea · 19/11/2012 10:10

YUMMY!

Mylittlepuds · 19/11/2012 12:34

I think I'd be on the cautious side with a 3.9 at brekkie (I'm a cautious Annie) just because I know that I'd have been verging on a hypo/have had a hypo through the night. But we're all different and not as neurotic insane as me. It is SO hard to get it right. At about 6am mine is usually okay - in the 5s. But then it randomly starts rising. So by the time I have breakfast I'm usually in the mid to high 6s. Sometimes even in the 8s.

My healthy eating plan is really helping me to cut down on my insulin - but scarily so. Today for example I had a bowl of porridge, soy milk, almonds and dried fruit, had 4u and ended up at 3.4 after 2 hours!! I'm taking no prisoners and my only real source of carbs is new potatoes with lunch and dinner and porridge of a morning. Lots of veg and protein. The last time I took healthy eating really seriously was when I was first diagnosed and my requirements went down to 1/2u per meal. Of course, as always, it was put down to honeymooning. However as soon as I change my eating habits my requirements more or less go straight back to what they were. I'm also trying to get in at least 30 min walking a day which is helping too. Sorry for the ramble about, erm, myself! It's just nice to compare experiences.

Mylittlepuds · 19/11/2012 12:39

Diec I've lost my hypo awareness too. Good to see that you still have signs when its a 1.9er. It doesn't help I suffer from anxiety as the symptoms are similar to a panic attack - dizzy, vague, tingling etc. So I sometimes think I'm having a hypo but I'm not.

dieciocho · 19/11/2012 13:29

Yes that does sound scarily similar Puds.
My ante-natal doctors regularly ask about my hypo awareness and I always say it's poor and their response is always "Oh dear, hmmm, um, um, hmmm."
Hugely helpful!
I have no idea how to improve it.

OP posts:
BonaDea · 19/11/2012 14:13

I believe there's supposed to be a correlation between hypo awareness and how many hypos you actually have... So, you might be able to regain some it by trying reeeeally hard to avoid having too many. However, I don't think that now is really the time to try as a by-produce of going for super-tight control is of course hypos..

puds - you've got classic dawn phenomenon. Try injecting just one or two units of novo when you test at 6am. For me, that works well in keeping levels steady and stops the rise until you are actually ready to have breakfast.
