Just had sweep - not effaced and MW could only get fingertip into cervix, any chance of going into labour over next few days?

As above really - am 40 + 2 today ahd have just seen my MW for a sweep. She couldn't really do a proper sweep as i'm not effacing at all really, cervix still very tubular and she could only just fit a fingertip in so doesn't look like anything is happening, despite me having lots of braxton hicks and backache over the last couple of days.

I'm desperate for things to start moving as am attempting a VBAC, but am booked in for a c section on Monday if i haven't gone into labour naturally before then.

Has anyone else had an unsuccessful sweep like mine but then still gone on to deliver within a few days or am i clutching at straws? Trying to stay positive but had 2 unsuccessful sweeps with DS between my due date and 42 weeks, went for a long and painful, induction before ending up with an EMCS for failure to progress past 2cm so i'm really starting to get the idea that my body just doesn't want to co-operate with this giving birth lark!

Thanks

Haven't got any first hand experience but just wondered why they have booked you for a section on Monday? Would that make you 40 +7 or have I miscalculated?
Could you ask them to let you go your full 10 to 14 days before booking you?
I have a friend that tried for a VBAC with ds2 and her CS was booked for the 14th day to allow her the best chance possible. Smile

They only wanted to let me go to 41 weeks as had scans at 34 and 36 weeks (due to low lying placenta which has luckily moved) and baby is looking like it's going to be v big. TBH, as much as I would like a natural delivery I'm so uncomfortable now that I'm glad the end is in sight one way or another so haven't really pushed for them to let me go longer than 7 days over.

Kay, unfortunately yes. I had that at last weeks sweep and no change at this weeks sweep. It's looking like Fridays induction is going ahead for me so bring on the drugs rather than the waterbirth I wanted.

My second induction, my body also doesn't keep to timetables for labour. I wonder how long I would be pg for if they left me indefinitely.....

With my first I was told my cervix was unfavourable for a sweep on the Wednesday but by the Friday night I was losing my plug and 1cm dilated. Had a sweep that night to move things along and the baby was born Sunday morning. Good luck!

Ah I see OP, well good luck! I hope thing gets moving for you in time! If not, hope all goes well with the CS Smile

Yes, had sweep on my due date with ds, she couldn't really do much as cervix was thick closed and posterior, 2 days later I went into labour on my own. It did take another 3 days before he arrived, but apparently I have a steel reinforced pelvic floor due to years of horse riding which slowed it down.

Unfavourable cervix on Tuesday, DS born on Wednesday night.

So you never know.

Good luck to you.

Oooh nice to hear some positive stories - still holding out hope that things will start on their own so nice to know that I'm not being completely unrealistic!
