I am getting a weird wriggling feeling high up, almost under my left ribcage, but this couldn't be the baby. What is it? Confused

Please tell me what part of my body I will feel the baby move.

I am so clueless, just over 17 weeks and haven't felt the baby for definite yet, so I'm getting worried and fed up with people asking me!

Is something wrong?

Not sure about the rib cage question, but I first felt wriggles and general movement low down in my tummy underneath my tummy button, and little kicks along the crease at the bottom of my tummy eg along the top of where your bikini bottoms would be. First kick felt with my hand was right underneath my tummy button.
I suppose everyone is different though, and most people find it easier to identify movement when they are relaxed lying down especially at first. You might have even felt more movement than you know, and not realised it was the baby. I wouldn't worry, lots of people don't feel movement until after 20 weeks, it'll happen soon enough.

jasmine31 · 04/09/2012 20:26

Very low down, near the bladder/top of knicker region. Just like a tiny tickle/flutter. Not sure what the rib thing is, sorry, but I think feeling the first movement happens later than 17 weeks for lots of people so I don't think you should worry.

ImNotCrazyMyMotherHadMeTested · 04/09/2012 20:32

I realised one night that the tiny tiny flutters that I had taken for wind were actually movements & I'd been feeling them for about 10 days (at 16 weeks).

Remember your baby is v v small & floating in a relatively large quantity of liquid so it will only feel like gentle tickles at first. Also I have heard that movements on first babies are detected later by the mum than on subsequent babies, so you are probably just fine.

susiegrapevine · 04/09/2012 20:53

Mine were both below belly button. Not sure they are that high up at 17 weeks but would not worry if you are not feeling movements yet especially if its your 1st

PeshwariNaan · 05/09/2012 03:45

Probably pretty low down, right above the pubic bone. I'm 21 weeks now and they're spreading out a bit more but still aren't super high.

PeshwariNaan · 05/09/2012 03:46

By the way, it's still really early for you. I didn't feel anything definite til about 19.5 weeks, and nothing consistent and recognisable until this week (21).

Merlioness · 05/09/2012 04:04

First flutters very low down at 13+4 Smile

monsterchild · 05/09/2012 04:33

I didn't feel mch until about 19-20 weeks, as my placenta is in front, which apparently kept me from feeling the fluttery until now (24 weeks). What I did feel was a rolling, big gas move sensation just below my belly button.

I do know that you may be feeling gas if it's that high up. Our intestines and other stuff get pushed up and out of the way as the baby grows... Your baby shouldn't be anywhere near your ribcage at 17 weeks!

Newtothisstuff · 05/09/2012 04:56

With Dd1 I felt kicks right under my rib cage like little taps but high up !' dd2 I felt them lower

Purplecatti · 05/09/2012 08:23

I first felt mine properly at 17 weeks, adjacent to my hip bone. It was like a little stick poking me from the inside, very rhythmic. People told me it was too early to feel anything but it wasn't. I could feel it at 16 weeks but it was more like a bubbly feeling and I wasn't sure if it was baby or gas Blush. If I lay on my stomach I could feel it much more. At 19 weeks OH could feel it if he pressed in hard at my side.
I am really skinny though though so maybe that had something to do with it, my more robust friend couldn't feel anything until 20 weeks and her OH not until 22.

worldgonecrazy · 05/09/2012 08:29

I felt quite early (I think about 13-14 weeks) and it was a tickle just to the right of my left hip bone. DD was originally a twin and was high in one corner of my womb at the time which is probably why I felt the tickle earlier than many first time mums. It felt like a bubbly tickle, that's the only way I can describe it. I think most first time mums feel the first movements later on, when it gets to the kicky stage.

Orenishii · 05/09/2012 08:53

Around 21 weeks or so, sort of in the middle of my belly. I don't know what all these flutters and tickles are about - mine was like when a muscle spasms and jerks involuntarily. My mum described them as tickles and flutters, which just made me think of fairies. My baby is definitely not a fairy Hmm

MaMaPo · 05/09/2012 18:35

At 16 weeks it was very low down, right above the pubic bone. The first one I noticed definitely wasn't a delicate flutter - it was very noticeable, almost like someone had flicked me with an elastic band on the inside. Since then (now 26 weeks) there have been more of the gentle movements, but my baby is not being delicate so far.

17 weeks is still very early - I wouldn't be concerned.

NorthernChinchilla · 05/09/2012 19:42

I felt three what I can only describe as 'scrapings' going down from just above to just below my bellybutton, and this was about 17 weeks. I'd not felt anything before, and didn't feel anything else for about a week or two after...but I'd been lying still in bed of a morning in the silence, so was 'primed' to feel something iyswim?

After that, for a few weeks it did feel like bubbles- I have an awful lot of long committee meetings to sit through so could concentrate on the movement rather than the bollocks being spouted discussion Wink

It was only after about week 19/20 that I could occasionally feel something definite, so certainly don't worry!

MrsReiver · 05/09/2012 20:17

I get that weird fluttering under my ribcage when I'm constipated - apparently it's your colon struggling to get into gear Blush

I'm 15 weeks and feel the baby fluttering about really deep inside - a bit like nervous butterflies.

beckslovestimmy · 05/09/2012 20:43

Right in the middle, low down and it felt like being flicked inside.

Rowanhart · 05/09/2012 21:59

Same as jasmine for me...

Hormonalhell · 06/09/2012 14:50

Low down near knicker line for me, im 21 weeks and he still prefers it down there Grin

Mama1980 · 06/09/2012 14:53

For me Pretty low like little pops to start with at about 17 weeks building to proper punches about 24/25 I delivered at 26 weeks so zilch idea after that. Smile I will say the initial movements felt like nothing I'd ever felt before iykwim which is how I figured out what they were

DangerMousey · 06/09/2012 16:44

My first movements were right down low in the bottom left hand corner of my belly right down near my pubes!

BUT i too had this weird wriggly feeling under my ribs very early, at about 18 weeks. And I am still getting it now from time to time, at 27 weeks. I have no idea what it is either! I presume it's something (an interal organ??!) moving about a bit, moving out the way to accommodate the growing womb?? But that's not a scientific answer. Just wanted to share cos you're the only other person I've heard of having this!

For me, it feels like something rolling slowly back and forth underneath my rib/boob area. Is that what it's like for you?

Ntomb1 · 28/07/2018 07:22

Hi

I have no child but expiriencing something I have never experienced before, I feel something moving below my belly especially when I'm relaxing so it's starting to get me worried now cause I hv done a home test and they are all negative so could it be. Please help.

MissyKJL · 31/10/2018 14:59

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and started feeling very obvious flutters very low down about 10 days ago. It's my first pregnancy so I was very pleasantly surprised! It's good to know all is well in there. Seems to be dancing a little jig every hour to 2 hours Smile
