Proteinuria at 23 weeks- what could this be?

I have been having tightenings/cramps since an episode of D&V on Sunday night, so I went to GP this afternoon on the advice of the midwife, with a urine sample, as she felt it could be a UTI. only thing showed up on dipstick was protein- he has sent sample off but didn't seem concerned about it and didn't take my blood pressure. My blood pressure has been low throughout my pregnancy anyway, but the GP wouldn't know that as he didn't look at my maternity notes!
I thought that protein in the urine was a sign of preeclampsia- can it be present and not be a problem?

Can also be a sign of unrine infection, usually accompanied by white blood cells.

Ah ok- Gp did send off sample so perhaps that's it then, will await results. Meanwhile, cramps v annoying, like period pains.
