Can you clean changing mats with Dettol spray or does it contain too many chemicals for baby to then lie on?!?

I just use baby wipes. You can get antibacterial toddler wipes or milton spray if you're that concerned. Smile

Baby wipes. If they're good enough for baby's bum.....

Poledra · 04/09/2012 09:53

I usually clened mine with hot soapy water but did occassionally use dettol when there had been a poo explosion on it. So, I'd dettol it, then wipe it over with a hot cloth before I used it again for the baby.

We always had a towel underneath on our changing mat (we were given about 20 baby towesl hand me downs from different people so used those) stopped baby from being cold on the mat and would get rid every two days or when it was wet or dirty. Wiped the chaning mat down with baby wipes occasionally.

I used Milton spray for a quick clean up job, but gave it a good clean with hot soapy water now and again.

I use wipes, and if it's particularly bad I'll spray with antibac stuff or wash it down quickly in the bath using the shower attachment.

I wouldn't worry about the dettol unless you're using the mat as a mattress or something - the baby won't be on it for very long at a time.

I always just used dettol. Smile

Baby wipes or hand sanitiser, depending on how bad it was or eg. If there was d&v going round at nursery or similar

Dettol wipes

Minty82 · 04/09/2012 12:48

We have a towel on it, so just chuck that in the wash. If anything gets on the mat itself I wipe it of with baby wipes, and do the odd Dettol spray when I think of it...

MrsSlocombesPussy · 04/09/2012 12:49

Dettol spray (the clear stuff), or sometimes baby wipes

BionicEmu · 04/09/2012 12:50

I just keep a pack of anti-bacterial wipes with all the changing stuff and give the mat a wipe over with one of them. TBF, I've got a bit obsessed with those wipes as they're so handy - use them on the highchair too. Very cheap from Aldi!

Not had bubs yet! but work in a nursery, and we spray the mat with anti bac and use disposable paper towels after every change. That is to eliminate cross infection between the children though and has to be followed for legal reasons (we also have to wear an apron and gloves). Just to say it is entirely safe to use and gets rid of all the nasty germs from some not so pleasant nappy changes Smile
