Help! passed blood clot - is this ok in threatened miscarriage

Hi, now in 6th week of my threatened miscarriage (now 18 weeks). Scans show large bleed area which has been larger with each scan. Last scan 10 days ago. Last scan showed baby growing normally despite other problems
have been losing fairly heavily today but dark red not bright(have had variable loss throughout).
apologies if TMI but tonight passed dark thick blood clot (6cm x 2cm approx). Definitely all blood. Haven't had clots like this before.
Am worried that this is the beginning of the end.
Does anyone know if this is normal?
Anyone else with threatened miscarriage had the same? Is this a good or bad sign.
Sorry so many questions. I have heard previously that clots are a bad sign.

It could be the bleed area coming out, some pregnancies have a 'messy' implantation which means that you have a largish blood clot at the side of the sac, this usually comes away during the early stages of pregnancy. But I would ask for another scan in your situation. It's impossible to say either way really.

Fingers crossed for you.

Ruthlouise, sorry to see this. Can you contact a midwife at all? I have 24 hour access to my MW team, but I appreciate how fortunate that makes me.

i would call mw too. hope you're okay xxx

thank you for your responses - it is such a relief to know this forum and support is here when we need it

Only midwife I could get hold of was on labour suite at hospital. she said to go in and expect to stay overnight. I can't do this as have 19 month old in bed and hubby is working away. Have decided that as I am not cramping, I will wait and see how / if things develop. Hoping, It might be a good sign that blood is finally clearing and actually a positive thing.
Would still be grateful if anyone has any positive experiences of this...

Can you go in tomorrow? Or arrange to have someone come and look after your dd/ds. Any family nearby? Sounds terrible to be hanging on like this at 18 weeks.

magnolia1 · 15/03/2006 22:48

I had a threatened at 12 weeks and paseed a few large clots the largest being a tiny bit bigger than yours and went on to have a lovely daughter. Don't want to give you false hope but just wanted you to know that it doesn't always end in miscarraige. Please see someone tomorrow. Keep us posted xxxx

Hi Ruthlouise - no words of wisdom, just wanted to wish you all the best.

Eve2005 · 16/03/2006 00:04

is there a call out gp service that could come see you?

ruthlouise · 16/03/2006 10:36

Thank you all for your replies.
Well, I am still here this morning although have had quite heavy loss through the night but no more clots. No cramping now so am feeling a bit more positive.

Rhubarb - I think you may be along the right lines - I am hoping its the bleed coming away from the haemorrhage site and that this might clear and finally stop the bleeding. I wondered whether the clot had actually been acting as a 'blockage', preventing the bleed area clearing.

Magnolia1 - thank you for posting your words of encouragement

riley3 - thanks for thinking of me, things must be difficult for you at the moment. I hope you have lots of support around you.

I have decided not to call a midwife or gp out. My consultant doesn't seem to know whats really likely to happen as this pregnancy progresses due to the complications and unless it takes a sudden turn for the worse, I think its just a case of sitting and waiting to see how things develop. I am relieved to have got through the night. I must admit it was quite scary yesterday evening and last night but am fairly sure I felt baby moving. dd has gone to childminders today so I shall rest.
many thanks again
Ruth X
