Hi,before I got pregnant I went to the gym 3 times a wk,ok fitness levels. For the first 12 wks I did nothing as felt so sick...have since been swimming which I love n will continue but fancy going to the gym once a week too.
Im lucky that there is a specialist bloke at the gym who is trained in this area, but just wanted some advice/tips off the ladies.

Do you go to the gym?what kind of routine do you do?

Im not being vain!Know im going to put on weight, but would like to get my fitness bk a bit n would also like to get some tone n strength to my arms n legs.

Thanks x x x

I'm 17 weeks and I still do Crossfit. (Please google if you haven't heard of it). I used to go 3 times a week but since the pregnancy it's been once or twice a week. crossfitmom website is really useful for what you can and can't do. I've lowered the weights and pause regularly during workouts so that I don't get out of breath. There's quite a lot I don't do now but there are other exercises that you can do instead. ie instead of burpees there are pregnant burpees!

I have just joined the gym at 36 weeks - not quite as stupid as it sounds. I did run, do dynamic yoga and reformer pilates before this point but I've got to the stage where I can't really do those anymore for various reasons but still want to stay active so I go to the gym, cycle for half an hour then sit on the swiss ball and do weights and squats with the ball. I take it very easy. Not sure Ill be trying pregnant burpees - I hate non pregnant burpees!

I was the same as you - felt so sick for the 1st 12 wks i didn't go. But then i went back the same as before, spinning once a week, gym twice a week (10 mins each on bike, crosstrainer, rowing machine and weights/floor exercises) and swimming 4 times per week for 30 mins.

I did this till about 29wks then stopped spinning and started reducing gym time by 1 min per week (9 - 2 mins on each, but more weights and floor tho), swimming 3 times.

By 37 weeks i was not doing any gym but started 1 hour aquanatal classes and swimming 2km every other day (1 hour).

40 wks stopped completely other than walking 15-30 mins per day.

Now 40+6 and really tempted to g for a swim!

I'm 25 weeks PG with DC2, still doing my pre-pregnancy 1 Body Attack and 2 Body Combat classes a week. Just doing low impact options. Occasionally going swimming too, will probably increase the swimming towards the end. Also get plenty of exercise running around after DS!

With DS pregnancy I did Spin, Body Attack and Body Combat until around 31 weeks, then swimming and pregnancy yoga DVD until DS arrived at 41 weeks.

I'm usually a regular at the gym, used to do a mix of high impact aerobics, zumba, circuits, running, weights etc. I had about 6 weeks of 'light duties' between about 8-14 weeks when I didn't really feel like doing much - although I did a lot of swimming / aquarobics. Now at nearly 17 weeks I'm back doing 3-4 times a week either body pump classes, zumba, gym (no running any more, disappointingly, just cross-trainer & bike) and making sure to carry on with weight training.
Speak to the expert at your gym and avoid any ab work - technically I suppose you needn't avoid it completely, but I felt really uncomfortable doing crunches etc even at 6 weeks.
