Baby kicks when should I feel them? People keep telling me I should by now!

Hi

I am 20 + 5 weeks, lets say a little overweight and as yet I've not felt bambino moving. People keep telling me "oh you'll feel it soon" but I've not even had even a little flutter, bubbles or whatever else other say should be felt.

I'm determined not to go through this preganancy neurotic but now horrendous morning sickness has subsided I almost feel just a little fatter than I was with boobs like hindenburgs!

Went for scan last week - all was ok- albeit a slow heartbeat at first but sonographer told us quite common if at the wrong angle with prodder etc so not unduly worried

But just wondered if anyone can put my mind at rest- when did you feel it move with your first? I've read somewhere it's between 18-20 weeks yet others say 22 weeks and you can read so much it sends you round the bend!

Thanks

18-20 weeks sounds a bit early for first, but we are all different, I think it was about 20-22 weeks that I felt kicks this time and its my second, I think it also depends on where your placenta is. I'm sure it will all be fine.

TinkerMaloo · 03/09/2012 18:25

its a bit early yet maybe

I have a friend that never ever felt a single movement. try not to worry!

applecrumple · 03/09/2012 19:10

You might be feeling movement, but mistaking it for gas - movements are quite subtle at that stage. Don't worry though, you will soon enough!

BlueMoon74 · 03/09/2012 19:12

Probably 26weeks ish...but then I have an anterior placenta!
But defo not at 20 week scan.

Flojo1979 · 03/09/2012 19:13

Bout 22-24 wks I'd say.

Nancy54 · 03/09/2012 19:14

i didn't feel any proper movement til 21 weeks and i've got two babies in there!

Signet2012 · 03/09/2012 19:14

I think I was about 24 weeks before I felt something I could say with faith was a baby kick,

I was overweight before I fell pregnant and also I'm quite "deep" if you know what I mean, like from my stomach to my back Im quite thick set even when I am not carrying any extra weight so I think baby just had more room if that makes sense.

Also I have an anterior placenta which can mask baby kicks.

Its only been the last 2-3 weeks I have been able to see my stomach moving when baby moves and im 41 weeks but my SIL could see her baby from about 28 weeks.

Try not to worry - it will happen soon enough :)

It can depend also on where your placenta is positioned, and also the level of amniotic fluid you have,
I had a freind of mine was 27 weeks before she could really feel anything, and she was quite slim but the placenta was positioned at the front of the womb and she had quite a bit of fluid.
Try not to worry (i know easier said than done)

Im sure you will feel your baby before long, my 1st son broke my rib with hus constant kicking and eventually getting his foot stuck!
Im hoping this baby will be slightly more gentle with me! Lol

HappyAsASandboy · 03/09/2012 21:23

I first felt bubbles at about 21/22 weeks, with twin babies in there! It depends on the position of the baby and the position of your placenta, so I wouldn't worry as long as the scan was all good :)

MaMaPo · 03/09/2012 21:58

There must be a large variation - I was very surprised to feel the first kicks at 16 weeks, and this is my first pregnancy. My doctor seemed surprised to hear it too.

I would try not to worry - if you've just had your scan you know that things are OK, and don't forget the the baby is still pretty small.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 03/09/2012 22:51

I have an anterior placenta and am feeling baby move (right now as it happens) at just short of 17 weeks. I've been feeling shuffling and pressure for a week or so, but now definate movement. This is my third though and I felt the others early too. Dsis only felt movement at 22 weeks with her first and she doesn't have anterior placenta so I think possibly I'm just a bit odd. All 3 of my babies appear to have ninja tendencies in utero though, the 12 week scan took ages as baby wouldn't keep still long enough to measure!

Secondsop · 04/09/2012 00:57

I am overweight and felt fluttery movement at 18 weeks BUT the doctor said not to expect them till around 22 for a first baby so I don't think I'm a normal case. So i wouldn't worry OP as it depends on all sorts of things including placenta location. At the beginning I only felt them if I stayed very still and put my mind to it! Even now (25+5) it depends on how active I am; I notice loads of kicking when I'm resting, but not much when I'm out and about (which is probably a combo of me not noticing and the baby being lulled to sleep by movement) so it may be that you are more active than me (wouldn't be hard!). Given that the doctor told me not to expect them till around 22 weeks it doesn't sound like you're unusual not feeling them at 20.

TodaysAGoodDayForTeamGB · 04/09/2012 01:06

I'm overweight, and didn't feel my DS until 23 weeks. Don't worry, you will feel them soon enough and wish they would't disturb you at 2am!

Moominsarescary · 04/09/2012 01:26

I think around 22 weeks with the ds1. I can't remember when I felt ds2 but ds3,4 and 5 were around the 16 week mark.

osaenlondres · 04/09/2012 09:07

23-24 weeks - and very slight movements. Strong ones from about 26 weeks.
