I really want to make a raspberry flan the recipe calls for 2 egg yolks i have to boil them up to form a custard. Will they be cooked long enough to be ok for me to eat? Know i sound completely OTT just a bit of a frantic worrier don't want to hurt baby. I'm 23 weeks pg atm. Thanks for all advice.

I would do it

Lexiindisguise · 02/09/2012 18:10

I would have thought this was OK as they are cooked, not raw.

backwardpossom · 02/09/2012 18:21

Will be fine.

I have eaten runny poached eggs throughout my pregnancy and not had any problems. The custard will be cooked then cooled so i would eat it happily.

HaveALittleFaith · 02/09/2012 18:43

I'd eat it. The advice says that eggs must be thoroughly cooked so egg white and yolk are firm. They would be for that recipe.

PrimaBallerina · 02/09/2012 18:51

I think the egg advice is out of date now. ALL lion stamped eggs - basically all eggs sold in shops - are from hens vaccinated against salmonella. I interpret this to mean I can't catch salmonella from them and happily eat all my eggs runny.

TyrionTheImp · 02/09/2012 19:02

My MW always said to make sure they were lion marked and then stop fretting. They'll be vaccinated so of no concern. I ate runny poached eggs through both pregnancies.

Thanks everyone have just finished a big slice without feeling guilty. Advice is changing so much.

I argued the lion mark thing in my last pregnancy and MW told me advice was still that runny eggs are out. I am grudgingly avoiding them but I strongly suspect you are absolutely right PrimaBallerina

OP, sounds like eggs will be cooked and therefore fine to me.

backwardpossom · 02/09/2012 20:18

I think MWs have to toe the party line, whatsoever
