Antibiotic ear drops - useful or work of the devil?

I have had an ear infection for three weeks, battled with pain and green/yellow gunk (sorry!) and folded last week and had antibiotics from the quack (just amoxicillin). Ear infection still here but not as bad, went to quack this morning, prescribed corticosteroid ear drops, asked if they were safe as pg, dr made non-committal noise and said I wouldn't shake the infection without it. Having read the information sheet that came with the ear drops it says in big letters not to take if pg.

Confused! Have any of you lovely people had a similar experience? Should I call mw tomorrow to check before I take them?

Thanks in advance x
