In my first pregnancy I switched over when my old ones got too tight, about 7weeks. It's fine to stay with underwired if you are properly fitted regularly through pregnancy, but I found non-underwired much more comfortable and am using them again this time.
Just make sur eyou get properly fitted - try bravissimo or John Lewis but stay away from m&s in my experience.

I was told the wiring in underwired bras can cause some damage to the part of the breast which produces the milk?? Can't remember exactly but with my dc1 I changed to non-wired bras when my others became too small and I will do the same this time (9+3 at the moment).

As Marmite says above, you can stay in underwired throughout pregnancy, provided you are fitted properly, and they don't dig into your breast tissue. Decent bra places (seconding Bravissimo) will make sure the wire sits against your ribcage and not your breast. Your ribcage might get larger near the end of pregnancy (joy!) so you might need to go up a band size, but that can be true whatever type you choose.

It's also bunkum that you have to have non-wired for nursing, you can have underwired nursing bras provided they fit properly. Personally, I'd rather get fitted regularly and have underwired than go to non-wired as they feel and look so frumpy. Can't stand the mono-boob effect!

I have stayed in conventional underwired bras as I have large breasts (even larger now!) and feel unsupported otherwise. I had myself refitted and bought several new ones in the first trimester after the initial big increase in my cup size, and then bought a pack of bra extenders a few weeks ago to increase their band size now that my ribs are being pushed out. I'm six months now and plan to stay in them until fairly near the end when I'll buy some nursing bras.
