Spatone and Pregnacare

My iron levels are 11.2 which for me is frankly amazing.
I'm on pregnacare + omega 3 and I'm thinking of getting some spatone because I feel awful! Breathlessness, really tired, anxious- these are all symptoms I tend to get when my levels drop.
I hear spatone is good at maintaining levels of iron which would benefit me.
I also read too much iron is toxic and really bad for baby so now I'm totally freaked out and I don't know what to do. Take both, take just spatone for a week or so then just back to pregnacare?
Argh! I don't know.
Does anyone know?

How many weeks are you? I was worried about the same thing cos I felt terrible just before 28 week bloods were done, my booking in level was 11.4 so I thought they must have dropped to 10 and that must be why I felt awful, as normally in the past I can really feel it if my levels are low, but my 28 week bloods came back at 11.4 exactly the same as my booking bloods, so my spatone sits untouched in the cupboard. I will need it after the birth, sure enough.

Maybe ask your mw or gp to check your levels if you are nowhere near a routine test? just explain you feel crap but don't want to supplement until you are sure levels are low, as you said it's not good to have too much...

I personally wouldn't double up on supplements without medical advice.

Pregnacare has more iron than spatone so it wouldn't be beneficial to stop the pregnacare & swap to it. Think you'd have to have a LOT of iron for it to damage the baby so 1 spatone sachet a day wouldn't harm. I'm on spatone, pregnacare, ferrous fumerate & have had 2 infusions. Infusions brought iron level up but I'm still taking the supplements to keep them up which consultant advised. Check with your mw to be sure & avoid any worry. It might just be you're at that lovely stage when you start to feel rubbish again!

I was taking Pregnacare but started feeling crap like you describe and then took Spatone twice a day for my last trimester and it worked a treat, even though my blood tests didn't say I was anaemic. Told my MW I was taking both and she didn't make any comment. DD is fine, but check with your MW or GP to be sure.

I'll be checking with the midwife yes. I'm 30 weeks.
I think part of it is just starting to feel crap again. I also think I want iron levels tested again, I don't remember feeling this bad in previous pregnancies.
I'm not going to double up. I've been on pregnacare since I found out i was pregnant, can't say I've noticed any difference other than now I feel worse!
Ah well, pregnancy delights I guess.

I'm 34 weeks and have been taking both spatone and pregnacare on my midwifes advice. Doc also prescribed ferrous fumerate but i haven't taken these yet so far, will wait and see what my blood results from last week are first.

Just thought i'd add that my 2 1/2 y.o daughter currently takes 1 sachet spatone every day (as recommended by doc) for anaemia following e.coli infection and has had no problems with overdosing etc.

my mw told me that our bodies just excrete extra iron and was happy for me to get a repeat prescription for iron pills without a blood test.
