Peeing when sneezing - 27 weeks

So, I guess my pelvic floor is rubbish. This is my second dc. I thought it wasn't too bad (dh said he thought it was good Blush). Until now I've done tiny trickles when sneezing. Today it's full on wetting myself Blush. I don't know why it would be worse today. I find that I can stop it to some extent but only if I fully concentrate on tensing my pelvic floor every time I sneeze. If I'm doing anything at all I can't stop it.

I can't take antihistamine while pregnant and can pretty much sneeze violently all day long. It is driving me mad, I feel like rubbish and my skin around my nose and mouth is even hurting from sneezing so much! I have no idea what I'm actually allergic too, otherwise perhaps I could do something about it.

I will focus more on doing my pelvic floor exercises, but I never know whether I am doing them correctly. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Your GP can refer you to a physiotherapist that can assist you with exercises :)

At least you only have peeing when sneezing... I have peeing when I cough, laugh, vomit... it is not fun :(

I doubt that would happen where I live (not in UK) I'm afraid Milk Sad.

I feel downward pressure when coughing and laughing but not enough to wee luckily. I did have a horrible incident involving projectile vomit and wetting myself during this pregnancy Blush Blush. I felt violated afterwards Grin.

I think my pelvic floor is in pretty good nick, but I find that it relaxes too much in pregnancy (almost straight away just a few weeks after finding out, must be hormornal). I leak when I sneeze and just wear a liner.

In between my pregnancies everything returned to normal, so I am hoping that it will just go back to normal afterwards.

rahrah you need to do two sorts of exercises - quick clenching and releasing and long squeezes. Ideally both sorts about 100 times per day. You should also try and isolate all three sets of muscles (urethra, anus, vagina) - try squeezing them in turn from front to back then from back to front.

Thanks Zuleika, I find when I do my pelvic floors my bum cheeks clench, does that mean I'm doing them incorrectly? I have been told two different things, one was to pretend there is a lift inside you and to go up the floors (1st floor, hold, then on to second floor hold etc iykwim), the other thing I was told was to pretend there is a malteser on in between your legs and that you are to suck it up like you are a vacum hose Grin.

September - I'm hoping that is the case with me. I leaked during my last pregnancy nearly 6 years ago (but not this badly as far as I remember), but then was fine until I became pregnant again. So hopefully after a while I will be ok again. I never thought about wearing liners weirdly Hmm, that's a really good idea, I'll buy some tomorrow!

During both my pregnancies I think I bought out the entire stock of Tena lady pads from my supermarket, coughing, sneezing, vomiting all resulted in wee.

Luckily things went almost back to normal after first pregnancy & I'm hoping they do again after this one too.

There are some antihistamine's you can take when pregnant...piriton is one. Your GP can prescribe it.

rahrahrahblah · 01/09/2012 20:24

Brilliant! I went into the pharmacy today they said there is nothing they can give me but that I should go to my gp about it. To see the gp about a pregnancy related issue is free but if it's about something else it costs ?55....my gp was very keen to point this out to me when I went in to confirm my pregnancy Angry. I have since changed gps though so hopefully this one won't charge if I slip the piriton thing in with a bunch of pregnancy related issues.
