Do you still cook with wine?

I did when pg with DS but have since read that it's a bit of a myth that all the alcohol cooks off, so I'm being a bit paranoid now I'm pg again...it's still ok to chuck some red wine in a spag bol, yes?

I do yes. I figure the small amounts I am using to cook with relative to the numbers of people eating it and my small portion = not something to worry about. There is enough to stress about, you're not guzzling 3 glasses every night, you're having a spag bol made with a red wine and onion reduction, or a sherry triffle - it'll be grand my dear.

Even if it is a myth (which I don't think it is) the amount of red wine you would get in a single portion is probably quite minimal so unless you're planning on eating hefty portions for lunch and dinner every day, I don't think you need to worry!!

Ok not all the alcohol boils off must most of it does. Half a glass in a spag bol that feeds 4 people or thereabouts so even if all the alcohol is still in there you'd be having 1/8 of a glass. It is fine, really!

Yes, but then I drink the odd glass too Wine

StarlightMcKenzie · 30/08/2012 18:50

Yes, but then there's no evidence drinking moderately is a problem anyway.

I drink wine anyway, a little bit, sometimes, when pregnant.

What tramp said :)

How much alcohol burns off depends on how and how long you are cooking it for so it is a bit of myth that it all gets burned off. That said, I've carried on cooking normally during my pregnancies and have given my 2yo son food that I've made with wine (admittedly normally done in the slow cooker so hardly any alcohol left).

Alcohol Burn-Off Chart

That's a very interesting chart, Bartlet. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it, too.
