Pain in bum... 30 weeks!

I have severe pain in my left bum cheek. It feels like a trapped nerve or muscle pain and it is crippling! When I stand up after spending even 5 minutes sitting down, I cannot walk without excruciating pain. It DOESN'T shoot down my leg and there's no swelling. I'm back to work as a teacher tomorrow and don't know what to do. Please please please help!

It could be a number of things so your bet bet is to see a physio if you can get referred.

In the meantime I had a similar problem (which was caused by my pelvis being out of alignment) and got some good moves from my yoga instructor.

Stand facing a wall/kitchen work surface/back of chair. Lean forward to make a 90 degree angle with you back parallel to the ground and hands against the wall (or whatever you're using). Then sway your hips (by bending each knee alternately) to stretch into your bum. This is also good for heartburn!

Get on all fours and put a cushion or yoga block under the knee of the side that's sore. Sway diagonally into the sore side (ie if sore in the left bum then sway from right shoulder into left bum cheek). You can also try swaying your hips or making circles with them to stretch it out.

Ooooh! Snap! On everything! I had this in my last pregnancy too and it was worse if I'd had a day in the classroom on my feet. But sometimes it can strike just getting up off the sofa! I find a warm bath every evening, I hop in with DD, really helps. Not sure what causes it-sciatic nerve, pelvis stretching apart too much? Whatever it is it's bloody painful and quite literally a PITA!

Me too -snap! Everything exactly as you described! I had this in late pregnancy with DC1. I am now 8 wks pregnant with DC2 and it has already started. It seems to come and go. Yesterday I was in tears, today haven't felt it much. Very annoying!

Sciatica doesn't necessarily shoot down your leg. Mine only goes to the bottom of my bum cheek and never any further.

See a chiropractor, they should be able to sort it out PDQ
