Bio Oil vs Pound Shop Rescue Oil---- tell me what you think or know?

Canot really afford to buy Bio Oil again and wondered if really just any oil will be good enough? I'm having baby No 3 and with barely any stretch marks yet I really don't want to ruin it this time by getting covered in them....and at 28 wks now I'm almost the size I was at 9m with ds and dd!!!

Is it worth the risk? It is a nice oil but I don't know if there are particular oils needed for stretch marks etc that others won't do???

TIA

You'll get loads of clashing responses re bio oil. Personally I prefer palmers cocoa butter. It's available I scented if the smell is too strong.

I didn't like the feel or smell of bio oil

Pretty sure it will be exactly the same at it's job. Get the cheap stuff.

sunshinesue · 29/08/2012 14:33

I've got both (bought the cheapie then bought the bio oil on offer). the bio oil seems to be thicker and I think you need less of it so possibly the cheaper one is a false economy. I don't think there is a huge amount in it either way though. Bio Oil is often cheap on Amazon or in TK Maxx. No stretch marks yet but I'm only 26 weeks with no. 1 so plenty of time yet!

I've got Bio Oil and the Asda stretchmak oil (only £1.47!) which I am loving. Who knows if they're working though

CakeBump · 29/08/2012 16:29

Stretchmarks are genetic, so it won't matter if you rub cooking oil on, you'll either get them or you won't....

Orenishii · 29/08/2012 16:41

What Cakebump said - aren't you supposed to be more or less what your own mother was like?

That said, I used cold pressed coconut oil for everything - hair, skin, cooking - as it's nature's elixir of the gods Grin No one ever listens to me when I post about it but it's AMAZING.

If you recommended it on another post on here I did! It arrived yesterday Grin. I KNOW stretchmarks are just down to genetics but I live in hope that buying anything someone recommends on an internet forum is the miracle cure Grin

Love it! I use it all over myself, have it in coffees and tons of cooking, and will be using it on the baby when they are here!

LittleLolly · 29/08/2012 17:37

Bio oil is currently half price on Co op pharmacy website!

Orenishii · 29/08/2012 17:40

Oh also - forgot to say - midwives in Malaysia use it along with herbs to help with enticing the uterus and abdominal muscles back into place.

We get a massive gallon tub, and pour portions into a smaller pot. It's completely pure although I think you can get olive oil mixes.

hzgreen · 29/08/2012 18:04

where did you get it from orenishii? i've found some on Amazon but there are several different ones and i'm confused Confused

Orenishii · 29/08/2012 18:06

I'll ask DH - he gets it from a mysterious man online.

Cynner · 29/08/2012 20:15

I use Shea butter for everything..skin, and hair. You can find it very cheaply on eBay and amazon.

bramblina · 30/08/2012 00:44

Oooh this is interesting.....I'm looking forward to hearing about the mystery man, Orenishii! Also looking forward to making a purchase Smile

I used bio oil on scars after an operation and it appeared to work spectacularly well. Also not expensive on amazon considering how long it has lasted. I might have healed just as well without, of course - i didn't do a controlled trial. I think it works because it contains vitamin E, which is great for healing - externally as well as internally. I read that ages ago in a nutrition book & used to use vit E capsules to prevent scarring ie pierce with a pin and just rub on the oil inside. Bio oil is nicer to use, smells better and worked out cheaper. But don't know about stretch marks as i didn't get them.
