stress incontinence or something else?

I've had a terrible cough for the last 10 days & get coughing fits quite often throughout the day. i'm used to them now & in themselves they aren't bothering me. it's just that I feel all my insides are about to fall out each time I cough! I've noticed what I presume is a bit of urine leaking now & again too when I cough ( it is only a tiny bit). Could it be anything from the baby? how would I know? Do I sound as niave as I feel?
TIA

Really sounds like stress incontinence to me, but check with your MW if you are concerned as they can easily check whether it's wee or any sort of amniotic fluid. Time to start doing your pelvic floor exercises!

ia there an easy way to check myself? trouble is with this cough & cold I can't actually smell anything!!

still undecided what is going on down. teh coughing & hence the asscoaisted leaking has stopped. The rational part of me (very small at the moment) thinks whatI'm getting is just discharge. the paranoid-worry-about-every-little -thing part of me is terrified that it might be somethig more & I'd feel awful becsuse i wasn't aware of it/didn't realise. anyone out there with any experience ofthis?

Bodenbetty - I too have a horrendous cough right now - it's been going on for nearly 3 weeks now. Just lately, I've also been experiencing the same thing as you. I'm pretty convinced it is just stress incontinence. So apart from emphasising the need for yet more plevic floor exercises - I also try to mae a conscious effort to tighten my plevic floor muscles as I cough...and this seems to stop anything untoward from happening. I also find the problem is potentially worse when I've got a full bladder - so maybe you just also need to make sure that you go to the toilet regularly too.

Just like Enid - also pregnant right now - 31 weeks

bodenbetty · 27/03/2006 13:54

well the cough has gone - and I'm soory if this is TMi - but how do you kow what is normal down there & what isn't. I'mstill quite stuffy nosed so can't really smell anyhting & doin't kow what I'd be looking for. HAve been on teh phone & visitong Dr so many times lately (& midwife) am scard they'll ban me if I out into may more appearances!

How pregnant are you?

I do believe - and also seem to remember from last time - that it is normal for some women late in pregnancy to experience an increase in vaginal discharge and this can also be slightly watery.

Question is - what does it feel like to you? If your cough has gone, does it happen when sitting or does it just happen when you stand up?

bodenbetty · 27/03/2006 14:29

24 weeks. there doesn't seem to be a pattern to when it happens - just sometimes i notice i'm a bit damp down below though when i look there doesn't seem to be a particular damp patch ( sorry this is way TMI thank goodness I don't know any of you) just white bits. I think it probaly is just discharge apart from my parnoid mindset

Hi, I'm 28 weeks and I'm having pretty much everything you say except I haven't got a cough !
have had to resort to panty liners, and have wondered about whether it was bladder/amniotic fluid myself...am fairly sure its bladder and because pelvic floor muscles have the tone of a blancmange (dont know why they've gone that way all of a sudden...Blush ) Have got obstetrician's appt on Wed so will ask on everyone's behalf! Smile

HandbagAddiction · 27/03/2006 14:50

Not too much information at all! Please don't worry. If it's just 'white bits' as you say, then I really do think that it's just increased discharge which is a common sympton of pregnancy and nothing to worry about normally.

Could be that when you had your cough, it could have also been a bit of urine mixed in as the stress of coughing would put more pressure on your pelvic floor.

However, there's no harm going back to your midwife or GP and asking them. I think they would rather answer your concern than want you to sit around and get yourself unduly worried about it.

thanks for all the reassurances - probably nothing that a family size bag of maltesers won't sort out.........if tehy don't work will go to DRs at end of teh week
