Another mosquito thread

Sorry, another mosquito thread. Not about avoiding them this time though... I already have lots of bites (about 10) and they just WILL NOT stop itching. I have had them for about 2-3 weeks, itching decreased for a bit but has now flared up again?!

Is this normal? As the itching is bite-related presumably not a sign of this scary obstetric cholestaris (?) disease?

Unbelievably madly itchy though. Any creams that you know of that help?

Thanks

Ouch I can sympathise as I had loads of mosquito bites last week and posted about it asking for advice. I ended up getting the GP to have a quick look to confirm they were bites and not anything nastier for pregnancy in one of their "last minute" appointments after the midwife advised this over the phone.

I started by using anti septic cream but the best thing I found for calming them down was Nivea Express Moisture body lotion which has citronella in it (anything with citronella is good as mossie's hate it - that's what they make the anti mossie candles out of). If I found myself scratching a lot I'd slap a bit more on and it would help.

I imagine that like with everything while pregnant, mosquito bites take longer to heal . Try alternating hot and cold clothes on the worst bites - tedious, but seems to help me.

1% hydrocortisone over the counter. Fine for short use in pregnancy and only thing that stopped the itch for me last time.

Thanks for the tips. The itching is maddening, especially at night. Will try some of these creams.

Might get someone to look at the bites at my antenatal appointment on Tuesday to confirm it is nothing more sinister... They'll probably think I am mad.. Smile

I had mosquito bites right at the beginning and was given an appintment at the doc.s The nurse had to perscribe antibiotics as they had become infected (one looked like I had been just hit with a tennis ball it was that big). I would get them checked out - just in case.
