Bleeding at three weeks pregnant. Any way it's normal?

It's about two and a half - three weeks since we conceived. Three tests - all postive, plus blood test and missed period. I've started bleeding - red blood, very period looking and having cramps. Is there any possibility this is normal and pregnancy will be ok?

With my last DS implantation was earlier on and the trademark pinky colour. Very light.

Defo get this checked, but I had this at 3 wks and then at 7 wks - roughly when I'd have been due a period.
I ended up having a scan at 7 wks as was really worried, but turned out to be my body adjusting to being pg and some overdrive hormones from before still behaving the same way - i.e. it was like a mini period.
Really got my fingers crossed for you. in answer to your q though yes it could be ok...

Overdrive = overactive

Thank you Wommer. It was a total surprise that I was and now we're really quite excited, so it would be a disappointment if it was over. Was one of those unplanned lovely things to happen. Thanks for your response and kind words :)

I am supporting a relative through a pregnancy, that's why i'm on this board, but am i regular on AIBU.

My relative had bleeding at your stage, she was scanned and everything was fine. She bled red.

She was told that it isn't uncommon and can be because of a varity of reasons.

She is now 12 weeks and doing well.

Bleeding can be completely normal in early pregnancy, but can also mean a miscarriage. Unfortunately at this early stage all you can do is wait and see.

By the way, you are 5 weeks pregnant, not 3. It's dated from your last period date not from conception for some reason.

Thanks for your replies ladies :) really keeping our fingers crossed. Cramps and bleeding stopped-ish and just terribly morning sicky which we hope is a good thing.

Hi
I have bleed in both my pregnancies at around 6 week. On both I had to visit the early pregnancy unit and have a scan which both revealed a heartbeat. I would Definately go get it checked out to make sure everything is ok. I know what a horrible time your going through so big hugs and take care. Xxxx

Go and get checked at early pregnancy unit. Bleeding is fairly common, I've had a lot and had two scans now to check alls well. But usually it's brown blood not red. If it's red & comes with nasty cramps that can mean MC. You should go for scan so that youkbow one way or other & also because you should check there's not something else going on. Ectopic pregnancy, issues with sac and so on all need to be ruled out.

Don't want to alarm you - a said I had a fair bit of bleeding & scans showed all was well. But scans also ruled out any other probs nit just potential MC and MW and sonographers were insistent that any further bleeding I come bcd and get scanned again. So they won't mind if you turn up.

Go straight to A&E and they'll refer you to scan unit.

Don't stress, think positive - symptoms are positive! - and go get scan & hopefully see where baby is.

Thank you Thetramp :) Glad to hear you're okay. I've phoned EPU and they've told me to wait two weeks and retest! If bleeding becomes worse I shall be turning up on doorstep. It's about 3 weeks since conception(5 weeks pregnant but not really IYSWIM - weird how they add two weeks!). Is that not too early to get a scan?

Hi myliytlepuds! from what I've heard, they won't scan until about 7 weeks as there is no heartbeat before then. Probably partly why they suggested you wait 2 weeks. All the best to you Smile

blackteaplease · 26/08/2012 07:17

Agree with pp, a scan before 7 weeks won't show anything other than a sac in the correct place. Good that you an self refer. My epu will only take referrals from gp or mw which takes time.

Fingers crossed for you

randomimposter · 26/08/2012 08:41

The term our EPU use is that it's not normal but it's not uncommon either.

I'm afraid at your stage it is a bit wait and see. The earliest I've had a scan was about 6w4d, and there was a HB then, though measuring 5w6d.

I hope it all turns out well.

theTramp · 26/08/2012 09:15

I confess I've no idea how the dating works because everyone seems to do it differently but I went at 5-6 weeks and saw heartbeat. However what they were checking for was an ectopic pregnancy or infection in the fallopian tubes - so I suppose fact that Socrates was thumping away was an unexpected bonus rather than what was being searched for.

Good luck, don't worry too much if you can and rest up.

Mylittlepuds · 26/08/2012 09:36

Thank you all :) still no more blood - so keeping hope up. Was going to go for a jog - is that I'll advised do you reckon?

MLP - see how you feel but I say put your feet up. Why not a nice long walk instead?

panicnotanymore · 26/08/2012 19:35

If you have had bleeding when jogging, don't jog any more. I am the same, the lack of exercise is driving me mad, but the baby comes first.

Bright red bleeds aren't good news and you need to see a doctor. I've had several, and now know they were due to my miscarrying a twin. The other baby is fine, and unaffected. Losing a twin is not unusual, and the consultant said it happens much more than is realised as often people think they've had a period bleed.
