Big babies and any risks?

I know that gd can cause larger babies and placenta deterioration but are there any other risks to baby or mum having a large baby?

i didn't have diabetes but I did have a 10lb 3oz baby.
They monitored her blood sugars for 24 hrs after birth in case I'd had undiagnosed diabetes I think, the baby can have a major blood sugar crash which can be dangerous, so you need to get them on the breast as much as possible.
She was also back to back all the way out so I ended up rather battered and with quite a lot of stitches, but that was more down to bad positioning than size I think.
She did also get a little stuck - minor shoulder distocia which was over come by the mw's doing a 'McRoberts manouver'
didn't need forceps or anything though, and was at playgroup with her and my older daughter 3 days later.

I didn't have gd either and my previous 2 were 9lb 4 and 10lb 2. Consultant predicted both their weights correctly and this time the same consultant is saying high 10s or 11lb.

Just wondered if the baby will be ok and are their risks associated with a large baby being inside too long.

so long as you're monitored it'll be fine I'm sure - I went 11 days over with DD2 (DD1 was a measly 8lb4ozSmile)
The midwives commented on what a huge and healthy placenta it was!
The risks of problems do increase as you get further overdue, but they're still tiny.
The big problem is getting them out - but you've proven you have a pelvis that can cope with big ones already!

I only delivered my first naturally. Ds2 made his appearance from the sun roof Grin

I am being monitored, regular gtt and grow scans Smile
