She's up for doing any volunteering/observation/shadowing neccessary as she's been told that on top of good grades she will need to show relevant experience with pregnant ladies and newborn babies.

She has just done her 1st year of 6th form (AS levels). She is in Yorkshire and has already contacted local NHS orgs and is going to attend some birthing & pre-natal classes but what else could she be doing? How could someone contact perhaps an independent midwife or doula, and would that be of any use?
Any ideas appreciated, thanks.
