Hello - am 36w pg with DC#1 and today have started washing the vests, sleepsuits etc that we have been given or have bought for our baby. I've washed newborn, up to 1 month and up to 3 months so far - should I keep going? When do you stop washing baby clothes before babies wear them? Thanks!

I wash everything before wearing it as they use loads of chemicals to keep the clothes bright in colour and starchy. And the store rooms where stuff is kept...err yuck!

I washed everything that would have skin contact, with baby laundry detergent, and no fabric softener, with an extra rinse.

I washed everything I got new or 2nd hand until she was about 18 months! It ott I know! I think until they can crawl maybe 8/9 months.

Before their first wash is the only time anything here looks ironed and uncrumpled, here.

Well unless it comes from that dump called H&M where everything looks like it's from a jumble sale.

My MIL washed all the second hand clothes we had been given. I hate the smell of strong washing powder so am currently re washing before the birth.

Anything new has not been washed. Keep tags on in case you need to exchange.

Anything new out of a packet. I only washed the newborn stuff then started washing bigger sizes as he started growing out of stuff. The smell of Fairy still brings back newborn baby memories!

My twins are 19 months and I still washing all their new clothes.

When I was pregnant I washed all their clothes up to 6 months and bedding that is a lie, my mother did it while I lay on the sofa like a beached whale

I always wash new clothes the smell funny when in plastic packets and get dusty if they aren't. I get itchy if I don't wash mine so always wash stuff I get for DD. However DH think it's mental and just puts his stuff straight on.

But I agree with not washing lots of newborn stuff in case you want to bring things back

I've washed everything up to 3 months il definitely so sleep suits and vests in the older ages as and when I get time but maybe leave regular clothes. Although I like that they smell nicer when washed so will prob end up doing it all.🤣
To be honest I usually was my clothes that are new before wearing just because I feel like they are cleaner being tried on, touched, dropped on the floor in store or kept in a warehouse for months before purchasing. My husband thinks I'm mad though

I don’t think you are supposed to stop. I never washed many things before wearing them but recently have been made aware of some of the processes that clothes go through before we buy them and so I’ve started washing most things (mainly home clothes and PJs and non delicates! Before wearing.
