Weird chemical smell

Earlier, sitting in the living room, I kept getting a whiff of a kind of chemical smell. Can't put my finger on what exactly it is but it's definitely something I've smelt before. But at the time the window was open and I assumed it was coming from outside.

Have been out all evening but am now home, sitting in living room and can smell it again. Can't work out where it's coming from and still can't put my finger on what it is, but starting to worry it might be harmful to the baby (or me).

Have no idea what to do. And in fact have no idea why I'm even writing this cos it's not like anyone here can do anything!

Am 26+4 btw xx

How strange I had this about a week ago. Followed me everywhere. Seems to have gone now though, apparently phantom smells are common in pregnancy although it's usually garlic. I'm 23+5.

Can anyone else smell it WKM? I was far more aware of smells while pregnant. If no one else can smell it I'd put it down to pregnancy nose and try not to worry too much.

sense of smell goes hyper when pregnant... probably the chemicles in the sofa that you can't normally smell. I looked after my friends teenage son whilst pregnant... he smelt so bad I couldn't sit in the same room !

I had this while pg. it was coming from the fridge. I washed it, bleached it, put bicarb of soda in it... It got to the point in the end I was ringing up the manufacturers asking them about a leak!

Needless to say it didn't bother anyone else and it disappeared after I gave birth.

Just got up, come in to the living room....and I can smell it again! It's stronger than yesterday so will have to do some investigating. I'll try and get a friend round later too to see if they can smell it.

Starting to worry there's actually a problem now xx

I've solved it! And I feel really stupid and am gonna blame it on pregnancy!!!

It was an orange that I'd left in a bag and had gone mouldy!!!!! xx

As I was reading your first post, I remembered that a few weeks ago I was also trying to track down a strange, intermittent, chemical smell. It was mostly just outside our front door, but sometimes inside the front room, especially by the window. There's a cellar under that room. Trying not to be a scaredy-cat, I checked the cellar. Nothing.

It dawned on me one hot day, when I walked past the wheelie bin, that it was the skins from the oranges my husband likes for his breakfast.

So if you're stupid, then so am I. Grin

It is a very strange smell, though, not particularly orange-y.

Glad I'm not the only one! Grin

It isn't an orangey smell is it? I knew I'd smelt it before but couldn't put my finger on it. As soon as it dawned on me what it was I could recognise the smell xx

I had this the other day, I thought I could smell something like cleaning chemicals. Turned out DP was drinking a whisky. I normally love whisky!
