What to do? Thoughts?

I posted earlier about fundal height not changing from 32 to 36 (nearly 37) weeks. Midwife not bothered and not willing to do anything. So I phoned the number on the obstetrician's letter I have for my 40wk appt and asked to speak to someone about it. The midwife I spoke to there asked useful questions (how was the curve on the chart, how much was baby moving etc), expressed some surprise that my midwife hadn't made a 'plan' to deal with the problem and suggested I hassle her to refer me for a growth scan if I was worried. So back to square one. I was looking in my notes yesterday and on the back of the growth chart it say you should be referred for a scan if there's no change between on set of measurements and the other - yet I wasn't :(. I've already had one growth scan earlier on as he was too small on the chart, which turned out fine, so wondering if that's why.

So - do I try and hassle her again (if she'll even answer her phone which I doubt based on past experiences), saying I've read this in the notes and am wondering why it hasn't been done... Or do I just go for private growth scan later this week when they have a free appt? I'm guessing even if that shows an issue I'll still be told to go through her to get anything done?

I have 2 numbers for my midwife, one I think is directly for her and another is for like the main office, if you have one for an office it might be worth phoning that and if you get someone different just explain that you'd like a second opion other then your original MW and you've spoken to the hospital and what they've told you. Sorry not sure if this is much help but hope you get some support soon x

I would hassle your original midwife saying another midwife at hospital X has told you that you should be referred for a growth scan. I know what you mean about them not answering the phone though... ! As an alternative, try calling the delivery suite at your hospital, they may tell you to come in to be seen.

Private scan is second best as NHS seems to ignore what they show IME.

I feel for you ? it is frustrating when you are given conflicting advice over something you are worried about.
I would keep trying ? speak to your original midwife explain that the other midwife thinks you should be referred for growth scan. If you are not getting anywhere, try phoning your day assessment unit at the hospital to see if they can help.
If you need something to back up your concerns (not that you should have to justify) there was an article in the Daily Mail today about a hospital who ignored warning signs that a baby hadn?t grown for a while and so didn?t induce when they should have. Link here ? apologies not posting this to scare you, just if you need some ?evidence?

Thanks everyone. I think I'll use the article as fuel - say I'd read that and was really worried, and that the guidelines said to have a scan in my notes, would she be able to refer me. That's if I can get hold of her lol - will start at nine and see how long it takes!!!

has she given a reason why she hasn't referred you for a scan yet?

the fundal height should be measured along baby's back-bone.. if baby is lying transverse, or back to back your measurement would be out anyway, so if that is the case it would explain why she doesn't appear to be worried... although i would expect her to have explained that to you

with ds3 my midwife referred me for a scan at 36 weeks because I was only measuring 34. it was utterly pointless as it was quite obvious from my giant girth that i was having a big baby (like my other 2) and he was back to back so the measurement was all but meaningless anyway!
