Slimming World when pregnant

I am currently a member of slimming world and I have so far lost 3 stone. I have about 2 stone to go. Nature has intervened and I am happily 5 weeks pregnant :)
I have been advised that it os safe for me to follow the plan whilst pregnant but my question is one of weight gain/loss.
Will it be safe if I continue to lose weight? I really don't want to gain all my weight back and I know my pregnancy will be easier if I'm not carrying too much exyra weight.
Any advice and thoughts welcome.
Thanks xx

Don't think they like you to 'lose weight' while pregnant, just maintain and be healthy. My SW consultant when I joined last was pregnant and she put on every week pasta certain stage but I guess that's normal.

My twisted weird way of looking at it would say relax and enjoy eating what you want for a bit but I'm 33 weeks and have put on a fair bit so ignore me!

Pasta? Food on the brain obviously!

I did slimming world throughout my pregnancy, I was at target so wasn't trying to lose anymore just wanted to maintain control. I weighed every week and the day before I gave birth had put on 35lb, must have mostly been baby and water etc though as had lost 24lb when I weighed 2 weeks later. Lost the remaining 11lb in the following 12weeks -extra healthy a's and b's as breast feeding. so back to my target weight. I think at the very least it will keep you in control and although weight may still go on should come of easier on the other side. Congratulations by the way x

I disagree, I think if you are overweight it is possible to still lose (albeit very slowly) whilst pregnant. I was sent to a weight management group with my first pregnancy and met people there who put on just 2 or 3 pounds whilst pregnant, when they gave birth they ended up lighter than before!

Of course its not a good idea to crash diet or starve yourself but you also don't need to 'eat for two' or anything like that.

I put on a whopping 5 stone with my last pregnancy and it can cause a whole host of problems in labour and recovery, not to mention feeling miserable and lethargic during pregnancy. I lost it all and more once DS was born and felt amazing. This time I have gained weight more slowly and hit my pre-1st-pregnancy weight at gone 30 weeks, I feel so much better and hope my labour and recovery will be better too.

I think it's worth asking your midwife if there are any similar groups in your area, it has been invaluable for me. Failing that perhaps your slimming world leader may have some knowledge on healthy eating etc while pregnant

Congratulations and best of luck :)

Ah having said all that please don't beat yourself up if you end up putting weight on every week, it is completely normal and with dedication it will come off afterwards (especially if like me you end up with a baby that will only sleep while you walk) - also sometimes when you feel nauseous the only thing that helps is eating and personally when I'm pregnant I'm always hungry, and never for the 'right' stuff!

I used to go to Slimming World and there were pregnant ladies there. The rule was that you were given a guide amount of 2 stone as your limit of weight to put on.

However there were some very overweight ladies there who continued to lose during pregnancy and that was considered OK. Generally speaking though, the encouragement was to limit the amount put on, rather than keep losing.

Thanks for all the comments, I'm going to class tonight although because its still such early days I'm not going to tell my consultant just yet. I have an appt with my gp in a couple of weeks and I'll have a chat with him and get his permission (says on the sw website you need it) if nothing else it will keep me eating a healthy balanced diet whilst pregnant.

I've forgotten what her name was, but there was a woman on tv last year who lost about weight whilst pregnant doing slimming world.. you may be able to google it.. she got permission from gp/midwife but she had quite a lot of weight to lose and this was her 5th or 6th pregnancy.. so I don't know if they wanted her to lose weight to reduce medical risks

Rockchick1984 · 22/08/2012 00:33

Slightly off topic, but I lost 1 stone literally between goin into hospital in labour, and coming out again 24 hours later so if you gain less than a stone you will actually have lost weight if that makes sense! I then dropped another stone over 3 weeks without trying (breastfed with constant cake to keep me awake and energy levels up). the other 3 stone I gained were much harder to lose

Hi
I am currently a sw target member and pregnant and as long as midwife signs a form to say you can carry on with following the plan then you are allowed to. You are encouraged to carry on the plan but increase your healthy extra by one. AS slimming world and midwifes work in conjunction it is unlikely that the midwife will refuse to sign form, plus she will comment on when she feels you should be putting on or not loosing as much weight. I have also previously been a sw member not in target while pregnant and it was mainly maintaining my weight and towards the end of pregnancy i put weight on, maybe from 24 weeks, which is when your baby starts putting on more weight. Hope this all makes a bit of sense, and congrats on your pregnancy.

I am not on a diet, but I tend to lose weight naturally whilst pregnant. Mainly due to both my taste buds changing, and the horrible indigestion and bloating I get.

I currently have 2 healthy DDs and another child on the way.
