If first baby is early, what's the norm for following babies?

Sorry, I think this has been done many times before, but was just wondering how it normally goes... Dd was 2 weeks early and new baby is due in 8 weeks. I just wondered if people had generally found that subsequent babies followed the theme of baby 1 in terms of early/lateness?

What's your experience? Also, I'd be interested to know if there were any other differences in terms of your state of mind, physical fitness etc - I was incredibly busy and stressed at work when dd came early and I'm convinced this had an effect - am much more mentally sound this time so wondering if the baby might be a bit more relaxed about arriving!!!

Hi there!

For us DS1 was two weeks early, DS2 was 4 weeks early and DS3 was 6 weeks early. It all seemed to coinside with me finishing work on the Friday and them all being born the following Tuesday! Grin

Oh god, was hoping to avoid that scenario again, finished on a mon and she came on Wed last time! Have given myself an extra 2 weeks this time but really really need it to de-clutter the house/batch cook/dig out baby stuff etc!

Not me but my friend, 2 weeks early with first, 3 days over due with her second. She was sure he was on his way from 35 weeks so it felt like forever for him to arrive!

DD1 - nine days early
DD2 - 2 days late
DS - nine days early

Had early maternity leave with DD1, was a SAHM with the others.

Hey crazyhorse, I was 2wk early with DS and am 8wks away from DC2! So snap!! Interesting to see what people say as I've been thinking this too! Grin

A couple of late arrivals on seconds so far, not sure how I'd get on playing the waiting game!

If DC3 makes an appearance (in sequence) 13 days early it'll be Christmas Eve!

DS was 3 weeks early but I was induced.

This time round I'm hoping to go a week overdue!

chrisdriver · 21/08/2012 17:37

DD1 - 35 weeks
DD2 - 40 weeks
DD3 - 42 weeks

All fitted in with deadlines floating around at the time. DD3 bless her, tried to stay out of the way whilst her siblings had chickenpox.

DC1 - 6 days early
DC2 - 5 days late

No braxton hicks first time round, numerous false alarms second time around as I was convinced DC2 would be early too - no such luck!

Good luck - hope it all goes well for you!

emsyj · 21/08/2012 18:52

DD was 19 days early and I'm now expecting DC2 - I start a new job in a couple of weeks and have an exam 11 days before my due date. If I don't sit the exam, I will have to repeat the whole course (4 months' worth) so I reeaaaaally want to cook this one for a bit longer!!! Good to see there are lots of folk with early first babies and on time/late second timers.

jenbird · 21/08/2012 19:01

Ds1 - 11 days early
Dd1 - 4 days early though induced
Ds2 - 1 day late
Dc4 currently 27 wks and am so hoping to be a little early!

SaraBellumHertz · 21/08/2012 19:03

DC1 36 wkd
DC2 37 wks
DC3 24 wks
DC4 induced at 37 + 3wks longest I'd been pregnant Grin

I asked my midwife this exact question the other day. She said it makes not a jot of difference!
