Hi, I am 26 weeks pregnant, think I have stomach upset. Been sick and (sorry if TMI) a bit of diarrohea. Think I may have caught stomach bug from friend and her kids. Does anyone know if stomach bugs can affect unborn baby? Extra worried as baby has DS, is small for dates and has AVSD, don't want to cause her anymore problems.

I'm just off to bed, but saw your post.
I'm not certain of anything, but I would definitely say that (and I'm sure you know this anyway) you need to keep yourself hydrated. Perhaps ring the doctors surgery in the morning to check with them.
Hope you are better soon.

Hi Solo, thank you for reply. Got a bit of discomfort in bump but guess it is from wretching.

I had a stomach bug in two of my pregnancies and was very worried. There weren't any problems. Just wanted to offer some reassurance. Agree with Solo about keeping hydrated.

I'm also 26 weeks and had what I think was a really nasty stomach bug at the weekend. The pain was awful and I was also really worried about the baby. A couple of days later and all is fine and baby is moving around loads.

Sure your baby will be fine as well but in your situation I'd give the midwife a ring as well just to put my mind at rest. Let us know what she says.

When's your due date btw? xx

realnappiesmum · 21/08/2012 09:08

Hi wkmmum, glad you are feeling better now. I am due 22nd November, although consultant wants to deliver baby around 37 weeks. When are you due? Trying to take sips of water as don't want to get dehydrated. Do you know if you have lucozade when pregnant?

How are you feeling now? As far as I know lucozade is ok when pregnant. Hope so as I've been drinking loads of it recently!!

I'm due 23rd Nov! So only a day apart. Why does the consultant want to deliver early? xx

Hi,

I had gastroenteritis a couple of weeks ago at 28 weeks and was quite worried as could not keep anything down . Main thing is keep hydrated you may not want to eat anything so i found that ice lollies were a good option and not too much if you had to bring it back up !! Also taking paracetamol is safe and advisable if you have a temperature. Hope this helps and you feeling better soon. Mine lasted for a few days xx

Hi, feeling bit better this morning. Finally stopped being sick, eaten a little, hopefully will stay down. Temperature back to normal now as well. Feel very tired though. Have routine appt with midwife this afternoon thankfully so will check everything is ok. Wkmmum, in relation to delivering at 37 weeks. Consultant said due to baby's various issues he said he wouldn't want things to slip through the net if left to 40 weeks when baby can be born safely at 37 weeks. From what he said ,think this is based on past experiences with other pregnancies he has dealt with when baby has chromosomal abnormalities. Having fetal well being and growth scan tomorrow. Being having these regularly as baby small and on last scan showed high pressure on cord dopplar which could indicate problem with placenta. Fingers crossed all will be ok tomorrow.

Not much to add but lucozade is definitely fine when pregnant as they make you drink it for the gestational diabetes test. best of luck op, hope you feel better soon.
