Nursing bras - when do I get fitted?

Hello,

Am 32 weeks in my first pregnancy and trying to get everything ready. Bought lots of things, but when am I supposed to get nursing bras?

I don't want to buy them online as I would like to be properly fitted, but also don't want to have to go shopping 2 days after the birth! If I get fitted at 39 weeks are my boobs likely to change a lot after?

Any advice gratefully received!

I got measured at about 38 weeks and was fine.

I was wondering the same thing so thanks for asking :) x

My boobs grew massively when my milk came in about day 3 after birth. They did settle down eventually but was agony in the wrong bra size. So I'd wait if I were you til your milk comes in.

I got fitted yesterday (at 39 weeks) and bought one cheap nursing bra (£13 from mothercare) just so I have something for the first week or so after birth and then I'll probably keep washing and wearing the same one for ages after.

The plan is to then buy a few more after birth once my boob size has settled down a little and I can be arsed to go shopping with three under-fives in tow.

Check out your local NCT branch. They have trained bra fitters who come to your home either before or after the birth of your baby.

I would really recommend the Bravado Seamless Silk bras - you can get them from NCT or John Lewis. They are a stretchy style, super comfortable and smooth. Because they stretch they will always fit comfortably, even in the early days when you can go up and down several sizes while your body adjusts.

I agree with alfie. I bought two from marks at about 38 weeks and then my milk came in and my boobs literally doubled in size so the bras I bought were completely useless.

I was a G prior to getting pregnant so rather concerned how big I am going to end (although doubt hubby will complain!) x

I think get a couple of the croptop type "night-time" bras to take care of the first few days, they have small/medium and large, not very exact, sizing.) and then have somebody come out and fit you when your milk comes in.

I second nancerama re bravado body silk bras- the most comfortable and best fitting bra I've ever had. I wore it throughout pregnancy and still wearing a year later Grin

I was planning on getting measured and buying a couple at 38 weeks and then getting measured again a few weeks post-birth in the hope this would be a more "true" size after my milk-comes in.

got a bravido in the post today, OMG I am in love, even hubby said it was nice to see my boobs where they should be instead of at my belly button. Thank you all for recommendations will defo be getting more x

I was a 36D when DS was born, three days later I was a 36G....

Oh yeah - another vote for the Bravado. Just got mine yesterday. Who knew that the elastic underneath the bra could be so... ummm.... NORMAL feeling! Only got one to try, but pretty sure I'll be ordering multiple colours after a couple of days.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 30/08/2012 09:42

The Bravado only seems to go up to an F cup :(

I emailed Bravissimo and they recommended getting fitted about 38 weeks, and will endeavour to compensate for the growth they think you'll get when your milk comes in.

Housewifefromheaven · 30/08/2012 09:49

I agree with boof. Once your milk comes in.....well :o. I had to get new ones because the ones I got at 39 weeks were way too small a few days after birth. I remember i went to John lewis, they were lovely.
