I am 33 weeks. Before pregnancy I was 8 stone, today I weigh 11.

I am freaking out that this is WAY to much and I feel like an elephant.

I am also wondering how much I may still put on in the last few weeks? Is it possible to remain the same whilst keeping the baby healthy?

Thanks in advance for your replies! x

I put on 3 and a half stone in both pregnancies. With ds1 i was back to pre-pregnancy size by 6 months. With ds2 I lost two stone after a week and now at 8 wks I'm down to 10stone 6 so only 10lbs to lose. In short i would say don't worry about it, enjoy your pregnancy, now is not the time to restrict yourself!

surely lots of the weight is the baby itself and increased fluids (amniotic fluid and blood volume)? I'm thirty weeks and feel much bigger too, but the scales aren't an accurate measure of how much body weight you've put on... wait til post birth and reassess.

Baby will be gaining up to half a pound a week in the final weeks I read, so only hardcore dieting will keep your weight the same and that's not a healthy thing to attempt in pregnancy. You're so close to the finishing line that as long as you're not eating loads of crap I really wouldn't worry about it!

merrymouse · 19/08/2012 18:03

Doesn't sound like a huge weight gain at all, (particularly if you were very slim to begin with). I would be more concerned with what you are doing than how much you weigh. Concentrate on eating healthily and being active (within reason - I'm talking moderate swimming and walking, not exercise to loose weight), not checking out the scales.

i too put on atleast 3 stone with all of mine, i just dont do pregnancy very well but i wouldnt worry to much , u do loose alot in the 1st 3mths after baby, then its just changeing your eating habits and trying to cut out the snacking thats the hard bit :)

Apparently most of the baby weight people put on is made up of: baby, placenta, amniotic fluid and the extra blood in your body. If you think about it, apart from the extra blood, you will lose all of the above immediately after the birth!
I obviously know that some weight put on is fat, but a big chunk of it is not. So I wouldn't worry too much.

Really don't worry. My last pregnancy I gained 4.5 stone. I'm normally 10.5!

It had all gone 4.5 months after the birth. I think bfing helped me enormously, although I know it doesn't for everyone.

This time I've gained less as running around after dd1 but I'm really not worrying about it.

BlueMoon74 · 19/08/2012 19:08

Am feeling equally enormous - 11stone 7 at 28 weeks. Normal weight is 9 and a half. Everyone keeps telling me not to worry...sooo...I"m trying not to worry! (however, my own mother telling me she only put on a stone with both her pregnancies doesn't help!!!!) But I do know exactly what you mean! However, trying to focus on a happy and healthy pregnancy first and foremost. Grin

stowsettler · 20/08/2012 10:15

I'm only 14+5 and have already put over a stone on. I found the only way to control the nausea was to eat through it, and so most of my weight is all crisps, not baby so far. Hey ho, it's not the time to be worrying about it.
I must say that DP is really, really getting on my tits about this though. Since introducing him to Weightwatchers about 18 months ago, he's become a born-again healthy eater and thinks that getting critical about what I eat is helpful at this stage. How I haven't murdered him yet is anyone's guess. "So you're just eating whatever you like at the moment then, and to hell with how much weight you put on?"
"Well mate, that sounds about right actually. Tell you what, when you get to have your body taken over by another life form, you get to tell me what the fuck to eat!"

Sorry for hijacking Blush

This is also a subject that interests me! I was 11.3st, 5ft 6 and a half - so a size 12! Now 14 st 10 at 32 weeks. My weight loss has slowed down significantly over the last three weeks, I have only put on about 3lbs and all measuring well with bump! However, much to my shame, I expect to break the 15st barrier.

I think don't stress to much, it is quite disconcerting, but I suppose it's all to do with water retention and how your body prepares etc.. Well, that's how I am looking at it. And if when I have the baby it needs a bit of an effort to get it off, then so be it, not the end of the world I suppose!!

Hmm
