Hot room?

With DC1 due in a few weeks, we're now all set up with a crib in our bedroom do he/she can sleep with us.

But: it is soo hot in our room! What do other parents of summer newborns do?! I am sure I read somewhere the room is supposed to be about 18 degrees. Can't quite invest in air conditioning at this point...

Maybe it will cool down soon but just wondering!

Don't worry, I'm sure it will be raining again in a few weeks!

But if not, the baby will be fine. Just put them down in a nappy and vest and maybe cover with a thin blanket as it gets cooler. A newborn will lose more heat than you do, so is more likely to be comfortable than you.

I think the reason they warn against overheating is because people tend to layer up clothes and blankets on babies, and in a warm room, that could be dangerous.

Maybe get a fan if it is really really hot. But honestly, I wouldn't worry.

Good luck!

Ah thanks Fruit, that is really reassuring. I am probably overthinking this. Will focus on not overdressing / layering if things stay like this. No doubt it will be raining again soon enough though, as you say!

My DS1 who is 16 weeks really hates the heat, our bedroom has been toasty hot since he was born (stupid hot water tank next to our bedroom which just radiates heat) he definitely let's us know when he's too hot by screaming the house down and refusing point blank to go to sleep! Fans are your friend!

Thanks teacher! Good to know the baby will probably inform us if not happy with the situation Grin

Tonight the nursery is 29 degrees! Poor DS tried valiantly to go to sleep in his cot but is currently asleep just in a nappy on our bed next to me whilst dh has been sent to the spare room! The baby will definitely let you know!
