Has anyone else bumped bump?

A few days ago I fell and hit the back of a chair into my bump. I went in for foetal heart rate monitoring and all was OK. However, could I have caused long term damage or disability to my baby? I am 29+2.

Thank you.

So long as you're not Rhesus negative, I would say chances are you will both be fine :)

I fell over at 32 weeks, tripped and went down onto my huge bump. Really panicked, but monitoring showed baby to be perfectly happy. DD is now a year old and completely fine! Try not to worry-easier said than done, I know!

I didn't really bump my bump (knocked it loads of times though with ds2), but I did manage to burn it whilst doing the ironing! Painful, but me and ds2 were ok. I am sure if you have been monitored and given the all clear everything is fine. But if you are concerned or feel reduced movements ring your midwife. They won't mind and will be able to put your mind at ease.

Baby is really well protected in there - even trauma like a car crash or falling down stairs often doesn't hurt the baby. I bump it constantly as keep misjudging gaps and I currently have a couple of huge bruises on it. Honestly very very unlikely to do any harm at all - we are designed like air bags. Like anyone says though -reduced movements or a big fall or blow to the stomach I would get checked.

tutu ouch - can see how that would happen - the size takes you by surprise sometimes doesn't it?

I know. It was actually the steam that did it, but I completely misjudged it.

In the last 39 weeks I have

  1. fell out the back door missing bump but grazed both of my knees playground style and jarred my back.
  2. Ironed bump x 3 times one resulting in a blister!
  3. Introduced bump to door handles resulting in lovely scrapes across bump.

Realised I have a bump and now have a load of bruises and scrapes on the top of my bum and back where I have tried to allow room for bump and caught bum instead!

I really hope I am more careful with the baby when she is out! Beginning to think she will be safer out than in!

i fell over last week and midwife said not to worry - when they're in there she described it as being like they're zorbing (the massive bouncy balls with water in that you get in and bounce down hills in) so very little will reach them - you and the fluid take all the impact

I fell over at about 30 weeks with DD1, no idea how I did it but ended up with a huge graze across the top of my bump. She was fine!
