Cramping in early pregnancy

I am 5 weeks, and over the past couple of days I have been experience mild to moderate period type cramping. It comes in waves, just like my period (am used to moderate to severe period pain) but is not constant.

Last night I was woken up with severe cramping pain, which lasted about 30 seconds.
Obviously I was worried about a miscarriage.
I have no bleeding at all.
The other thing is I feel may be a cause of the worsened cramps is that I'm very bloated and constipated, could it be this that's making the cramps worse?
I'm on the way to the shops for some prune juice.
Any opinions anyone?

See your gp, always best to get a second opinion :-)
Hope your feeling ok and not too worried.

Do a search here, there have been threads about this. Many women have this in early pregnancy including me, with all three. It is the womb muscles stretching and growing, but can feel very periody and worrying. Take it easy if u can, and try not to worry, no blood no problem.

Agree with wandering, however dont read too much because that can stress you out

I had the same thing in both my pregnancies (I'm 6+6 weeks now with dc2). It's your body adjusting to the massive changes ahead!! If you're worried though, go to see your gp.

I phoned the nurse at my GP's who told me to come in. I saw the duty doctor who told me it's normal to have pain, mild moderate or severe as long as it goes away and there's no bleeding.
I thought it would be ok, but am more reassured.
I am feeling very uncomfortable though and slightly sorry for myself, if I feel like this now how am I going to cope with labour?!
I've been to the shops on the way home from the doctors, and bought lots of healthy food including prunes. I am going to try and concentrate on being healthy and get myself through my wedding in 2 weeks time lol..
Thank you all for your advice xxx
