Hearing the Babies heartbeat in bigger mums

I'm 15 weeks pregnant.

When I had DD I got to hear her heartbeat at 16ish weeks. I was slimmer then (half the weight I am now :( )

I was wondering if "bigger" mums get to hear their babies heartbeat at 16weeks or is not possible then?

I don't know if size makes a difference but they didn't even try to find heartbeat at 16 weeks for me and I'm not big at all. So if they don't try it could just be their preference - apparently some MW /GPs don't like trying as it is too stressful if they can't find it and lots of things can affect that (placement of placenta etc) so they wait a little bit longer...

I've always heard it about then. I am a size 22. However I know some midwives don't like to try then as depending on babies position it can be hard to find and can freak you out.

I'm not sure if the MW try to find the heartbeat anymore as so much has changed since I had DD (just under 4 years ago).

My 16 week appointment is with the consultant instead of MW as I'm high risk through my health.

I'm pleased being bigger does not cause to much problem with hearing the heartbeat :)

I'm very overweight and have been for as long as I can remember. I had bleeds in my first pregnancy and the gp got a heartbeat at nine weeks to reassure me as I had to wait over a weekend for an epu appointment.

I'm In the obese category and I heard mine on my home doppler at just under 8 weeks. I think reason they won't try so early is that it takes awhile to find, and if they dont find it, they would need to send the woman for an us to put her mind at rest. By 16 weeks it's so bloody loud and obvious you are almost certain to find it!
