CRL measurements in early pregnancy scan

Hi guys I wonder if you can help me?

I had a early pregnancy scan today she was very happy with what she see. A good strong heartbeat the yolk sac all was in the right place no bleeding around the area. Could not of gone more perfect until she said my CRL WAS 7.5mm.

I googled it (slaps hand) and its a measurement for 6+ weeks. I was sure I was 7 week 4 days.

She has however put my gestation at 7+4 days. Has anyone had any similar experiences to me? Your info will be much appreciated :).

Thank you xx

Hi Keys,
I had exactly the same happen to me. I had an early scan at what I was sure was 7+4 and the CRL only measured 6+5, so almost a week behind. It was stressed to me that this was inaccurate at such an early stage but I was a bit worried that baby wasn't growing properly and that might indicate a problem. However when we went for our dating scan baby measured to my date exactly, showing that I was 7+4 at the earlier scan. Try not to worry (difficult I Know).....

Hi Gossip thank you for your reply hun.

Its so hard not to worry I had a miscarriage a few months ago which is why I had the early scan sometimes I think there more worry than there worth lol.

I was so disheartened by it because my periods are like clockwork but she said the heartbeat was really strong and its growing well. You sometimes cant help but worry.

I get confused by the measurements. She still however put my gestation down at 7+4 weeks my mum come with me and she said if she thought it was to small or the heartbeat was weak she would of 1. called you in for another scan and 2. not of put your gestation date down as 7+4 weeks.

Got the 5 week wait now but I have a 2 year old so the time will fly by hopefully.

Congratulations on your pregnancy hun and I wish you all the best and thank you for your reply has put my mind at rest a little.

Hi, I also measured small at an early scan, however at the 12 week scan all was fine and matched up with my dates. I believe there is quite a wide variation in how quickly foetuses grow at this early stage, so there is quite a wide range of sizes that a 7 week foetus can be. This is why they have to do the dating scan within a particular window (11-14 weeks) as that is the only time when all foetuses are about the same size. So a slightly too small measurement should not worry you too much.

Hi Minipie

Thank you very much for your reply. I do feel a little silly for posting but I was just really worrying when I know I shouldn't be as from my scan the lady said it was perfect. She said I was measuring 6 weeks 6 days but as you said she didnt want to change anything as looked healthy and said to wait for my 13 week scan now.

Ive got to wait until 17th September :( ages away yet. Im sure all will be fine.

Thank you very much for your reply it does mean alot.

Congratulations and all the best with your pregnancy.

I was also very worried when I measured small at my early scan so I don't think you are silly at all Smile best of luck and hope all goes well on the 17th.

You've already had some lovely positive replies, and I can't offer a personal experience as I've never had a scan before 12 weeks. However, just wanted to add that if you think about it (or look on a ruler!), 7.5mm is a tiny distance, so I would think the margin of error needs to be taken into account too. I seem to think the dates are usually +/- a week at this point anyway.

A heartbeat is a fantastic sign too! Good luck with everything!

Awwww thank you so much guys you've made me feel a lot better. Your all so lovely on here and I really do appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post.

Your 100% right the heartbeat was there and very strong so I will concentrate more on that positive than a small negative which is more likely to be wrong the heartbeat was great for nearly an 8 week old bean :).

Thank you again Thanks
