Won't do NT unless seen midwife?

I just got my scan appointment and it is on 29th, I phoned surestart centre to chase up my midwife appointment to be told that I was supposed to have phoned and booked myself in. GP got it wrong :o(

So now I can't see MW until 6th Septemeber to be booked in. The letter says they can't do the NT unless I have green notes and have filled them in with MW. What does this entail?

I desperately do not want to cancel the appointment (I won't cancel it) as I am VERY anxious and the next appointment available would be too late to do NT anyway.

What should I do? The ultrasound department are not helpful, I am going to pick up my green notes and fill it in myself (surestart told me to) but they won't be signed off.

Sorry you're going through this stress.
I'd phone and ask to speak to an actual midwife rather than receptionist. Insist. Ask for either reassurance that a scan won't be too late or ask them to see you before the scan.
I'm afraid you tend to get what you push for these days.
Good luck.

Ask to speak to the MW, who might be able to bring your booking in appointment forward. If this isn't able to happen, phone the ultrasound department who may have MWs on hand that can help you with the form just before your appointment iyswim.

I had my NT without booking in with the midwife first - my letter also said i needed to bring my notes but i called the ultrasound and explained i was not able to get an appointment with MW until after my scan (they were really booked up so was no fault of my own).

Anyway this was all totally fine, they gave me a copy of the report which my midwife stapled into my notes when she filled them out a couple of days later.

p.s i had 'seen' the midwife prior to this as this was when she did the scan referel but i wasn't booked in as she said they usually did this around 10 weeks (but ended up being over 12 weeks as that was the next slot she had)

I am 10 and a half weeks already, I won't be seeing midwife until I am 14 weeks and they can't fit me in before.

So Emma, am I screwed? Will they at least scan me and date me or just turn me away with nothing?

All I want is the scan really, the NT isn't much of a concern to us, but the scan REALLY is.

What does NT mean?! I'm pregnant for the first time (10 weeks today) and struggling a bit with all the acronyms being used on here!

Also, what is the green form? I've been for my first midwife appointment but she mentioned something about a blue or green from my welcome pack and that it was very unusual for my selected hospital to have missed it from the pack.

I am waiting for my scan date but want to make sure I have all the right paperwork as I am desperate for my scan and will die (not literally of course!) if I get turned away on the day for incomplete paperwork!

Sorry to gate crash, hope you don't mind?!

Go to wherever the MW appointments are made and say you'll stay there until a midwife sees you and signs the request for the scan. They will probably do it just to get rid of you! (at least this sort of thing works for me...)

Alternatively, call them everyday and insist. May work the same way.

i cant see that they wouldnt scan you. when i went in sonog' asked ifi wanted the test even though consent was on my paperwork so i assumed she was just dbl checking. anyway the papers she added to my book showed all measurement etc so i f they are snooty about doing the full test...blood aswell... u could gauge a good idea from her measurements i should think?

panicnotanymore · 16/08/2012 10:14

I was given a 12 week scan date before booking in as due to a backlog they couldn't fit me in until 16 weeks. The scan date is important, and can't be delayed as you need the nuchal measurements taken in the period weeks 11-13.

Ring up and make a fuss if they are messing you about over the scan - the date matters. The booking in date is not important, that can wait, but you must get your scan on time.

I just got a call from a lovely community midwife and she is coming to see me at home next week as she was concerned about not seeing me till 14 weeks.

Feel a bit odd seeing a midwife, I feel like a right fraud!
