And has anyone had it in previous pregnancies....does it go after? I'm looking into wearing a bag over my head Sad

Don't know about whether it goes as I'm still pregnant, but I have had this. Switched to Liz Earle skin care products and that has helped ( though it's not gone completely)

What does it look like?

When I was pg (14 years ago) I developed perioral dermatitis. Since then have a flare up every year or so.

It is induced/exacerbated by hormones, so pregnancy and the pill did it for me.

Red, itchy as hell, little lumps under the skin - but not spots as such.... Sob sob sob.

Yup I had it. Had roseacea before and took antibiotics for flare ups. Then got PG and I had the worse flare up ever!!! And couldn't take antibiotics because of side effects. Am 30 weeks now and flare up still happens every now and again but seems to be better. I switched to body shop aloe Vera face wash and plain old e45 cream. Seems to help. Hope it gets better. I had people say to me "god elvis, what's wrong with your face?!" people are so tactful :)

That doesn't sound the same then. Perioral dermatitis is v red, itchy, clusters of blistery spots.

Maybe your skin has gone extra sensitive, and reacting with your skincare products?

Get down to the docs.

Hope it goes back tp normal soon

Thanks everyone. It just feels like the icing on the cake that makes me want to go put my head in the oven... What with the knackered back, incontinence, hernia moan moan moan.

So after the baby is out, antibiotics should help clear it up? There is some hope??

Yes if it's rosacea. But see your GP as they may be able to offer something. The antibiotics they use have to be used for 8 weeks and I don't really like taking then for that long although they do work. As you're preggo the hormones make it worse as well as making your skin more sensitive. Try different products see if that helps. The joys of pregnancy that they never tell u about!

CityDweller · 14/08/2012 22:14

I used to have perioral derm and also rosacea. Joy. If it's really bad, then try not using any products at all on face. Just splash w water and pat v gently. Try not to rub or touch face. Also try to work out if you have specific triggers (heat, spicy food, are common ones) and try to avoid.

I used to use Liz Earle, thinking it helped, but actually turned out it was making it worse. I switched to Ren products and that's helped a lot. But, for me it is also v hormonal and it's always worse in luteal phase of my cycle. We'll see what pregnancy does for it...

You could try the face kit from Dr Hauschka. Their face wash and quince cream keeps mine well under control. Without it my skin is so sore I could cry!

Thanks everyone, it helps to know I'm not alone! I think the heat can't be helping at all, I feel like such a sticky greaseball all the time. Roll on winter!! I've been given a metronidazole gel to use for 8 weeks, no less lumps, just drys it out so far. Will try to find some of the products mentioned and see if they help. And cut out caffeine. Thanks!!

Yes, but only on one side of my face. It was really bad - looked like teenage acne but it has cleared up almost completely now I'm in my third trimester.

The bad news is that this started in my first pregnancy, died down in the third trimester, was completely absent during breastfeeding but revived as soon as my periods came back Sad. I also got it in the luteal phase but never as bad as in the first and second trimesters of this pregnancy (my second pregancy).

Anyone else had it on one side of their face only?

I use Dr Hauschka's Rose Day Cream. I'm not sure it helps but it's a lovely moisturiser so I've stuck with it. Might try the quince cream next time I run out though.
