Scan at 8 weeks, what type?

I was just wondering what type of scan i'll be having next Wednesday I'll be about8-9 weeks.

Shall I drink water just incase?:) thanks. X

I asked the same thing yesterday.

If you get a trans abdominal scan, it seems they want a full bladder, but trans vaginal (ie internal) they want it empty. Best, I think, to drink a bit before you go and they will then soon tell you if they need you to go to the loo to empty!

depends have had both around that stage. Worst was when i went at 6 weeks and presumed it would be dildo cam, and started to whip my knickers off. Sonographer was 'woah there!' and said no abdominal scan was the plan! And they detected sac and hb fine.

I had an abdo with dd2 at 6+5. At 8 weeks I wouldnt have thought dildo was needed unless there was something they wanted to have a closer look at (I had dildocam with dd1 at 7+4 to look at ovarian cyst).

I had dildo-cam until about 11 weeks. No-one has ever mentioned drinking water for any type of scan and I'm almost 22 weeks now!

jollster how embarrassing! I had no idea I would be getting an internal examination (clueless first timer) and was tittering away with DH at the stirrup chair and nearly fell over when the doctor told me to get undressed!! :)

I had one last week at that stage and everything was picked up fine with a normal abdominal scan. Enjoy!

It's to check my bleed next to the baby has gone and to check everythings alright.

No Haitch, I'm in Germany. I was scanned at 5 weeks, 7 weeks, 11 weeks, 15 weeks and 21 weeks. Its every 4 weeks up to about week 28 I think then every 2, then in the last few weeks its every week.

You can opt for exclusive midwife care, then you get scanned a lot less.

Thought so from the internal comment as its rare to have one here

Plus we only get two scans unless there's a problem!

I've been scanned at 6 weeks might be getting scanned tomorrow. Then I have a 12,16,20&24 week scan. They rung me today they might want scan me tomorrow because of cramps&bleeding which will he onernal(7-8weeks). Thank you all :) x

I had a scan at 8 weeks and it was abdominal but I gathered if your bladder wasn't full enough they'd have need to do a vaginal.

I had a scan today was about 8 weeks I've miscarried :(

Sorry to hear that OP, we had the same news at 12 weeks with our previous pregnancy and I know how awful it is.

So glad to hear your BF will be off work & with you, I had my DH or parents with me for the first week & it really helped. Take care of yourself xxx
