Hi everyone, I found out I'm around 6-8 weeks with first dc and have 1st mw app next week. I'm getting period like pains most of the time- sometimes dull, sometimes feel stronger-is this normal? Got usual other symptoms too like tired out n toilet runs but wanted to ask about period like pains. It's definately not sharp stabbing pains though. Thanks x

Totally normal to have period style cramps your uterus is stretching and growing. I had them a lot. What's not normal is if it's really painful, more so than usually periody cramps.

I had lots of cramps and stabby pains at that point. If it was all in one specific point, constant or accompanied by bleeding I would go to get it checked out but if not it sounds like ligaments stretching. Tell the MW though.

Thank you Pickles, I'm sure it's a question that's been asked over and over but it's good to hear that it's normal stuff. Got the pains almost all the time at the mo, think that was the worry more than fact I have them. Will stop worrying about it now :)

I worried about them all the time! Pg with second now and not so bad. They were exactly the same as period pains, dull achy crampy ones.

olympicvibes · 10/08/2012 21:14

Thanks ivana, I'll tell mw next week. It's dull pains that move all over, absolutely no bleeding, just uncomfortable, will get it checked if it changes for worse. Thank you

Yeah I had a horrendous nightmare other night that didn't help. Think I am just so ful of questions and want to know everything-will feel so much better once I have met mw.

Totally normal. I had so many weird "twinges" and cramps around that time. It does settle down and then you start to feel a lot of "stretching" in your uterus.

Dont worry and if your not sure post people will be happy to share their experiences.

I remember being really worried, but its totally fine.

Having nightmares is pretty normal when your pg, I had some howlers last time!

Its a lovely time but can be nerve wracking.

Hi,

I had cramps at 5-7 weeks and was very worried. Now around 9 weeks and they have stopped, just get the odd mild pain now and then. Apparantly it is normal to have some cramps from uterus growing, although the baby is so tiny the uterus gets a lot bigger in the early weeks from size of a small fist to grapefruit size by 10 weeks I read.

My cramps were quite bad which is why I worried, like my worst period pains, thighs, back and stomach all aching like mad, also seemed to come in waves over a couple of hours a bit like contractions. I paid for an early scan to check things, didn't look good but a week later found a heartbeat and everything going fine now! I really wouldn't worry as long as they are mildish and no bleeding.

It's probably nothing, but go to the doctor ASAP and have it checked out. I had something similar and they did an early scan to check the pregnancy wasn't ectopic. It wasn't, but the gp took the situation v seriously so I guess some people with these symptoms aren't so lucky.
