am seeing FANTASTIC opportunities... that are 1 year fixed contracts Sad - where were they 6 months ago when I could actually commit to them?

I can't really apply can I when I'm going on maternity leave at christmas?

I have NO quams about applying for permanent jobs when pregnant but think that applying for mat cover or 1 yr fixed is a bit of a piss take? or am I limiting myself where others don't?

anyone else pregnant and job hunting? how's it going?

I'm leaving it until after, as realistically no employer is going to see me as the 'best candidate' in a market like this. In a slack market someone might take me on, but not with the economy how it is.

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 08/08/2012 19:56

I obviously disagree or I wouldn't be bothering
for one thing there is an advantage to employers to hire someone who is ALREADY pregnant over someone who might get pregnant after being hired - they don't have to pay my mat pay! Plus it is a ridiculous sweeping statement to say that NO employer will see a pregnant woman as the best candidate, they could and do! yes even in this climate!

but whatever I never started this thread to debate the POINT of job hunting, just wanted to havea rant and to see if anyone else was and wanted to rant with me about 1Yr fixed terms and fitting into interview clothes etc

I am about to start job hunting when pregnant! I'm looking for a temporary role though. If I see lots of great 1 year contracts that will be very annoying yes!

MrsTwinks · 08/08/2012 20:08

Not job hunting as such, but waiting to sign my new permanent contract before I tell my boss as I just know offer will disappear if I tell them. I currently work with a girl on a temp contract (actually finishing way before her EDD) who is pregnant. Boss was none too happy to find out she was pregnant, as I was told in great depth.

DREADING telling them now tbh. I wouldn't say if you didn't have to, especially if early days. good luck

they're REALLY good ones too aufaniae, if I'ld seen em 6 months ago I'ld be so excited about applying for them! a lot of them are quite rare opportunities so its not likely that they'll suddenly appear again this time next year when I'm finishing mat leave Confused

still there are some not perfect but still working towards my goals jobs to apply for.. and waiting to hear back from an interview too so its not like my searches are drawing a blank!

how long till you can sign MrsTwinks?

mine's not really a concealable bump being bump no 2

I have heard quite a few employers say that although a lot of people apply per post, they still struggle to find SUITABLE people who interview well, and DH recently got a new job that bent over backwards to work around his other job as he was the best canditate so some out there will be flexible for the right person

Like I say, at least they'll never have to fork out for mat pay for me! and I will be back to work by this time next year, Its not my first so its not like having this child will suddenly make me SAHM material if my first child didn't!

as soon as my boss gets the paperwork, which given their track record could take months. I was on a much lower £PH etc until I covered someone on mat leave, who now hasn't come back so its staying my job. I just hope I can get it signed and sealed before it becomes obvious I've held out telling them IYKWIM.
