Sorry I am possibly going overboard starting threads today with my issues.

Anyhoo, went to the docs earlier because I've been having lower abdo and lower back aches and wanted to check I didn't have a UTI before going on holiday tomorrow. My urine sample showed up traces of protein and blood when the DR used the test strip and she has prescribed a course of anti-biotics (Cefalexin).

I feel really achey now and when I just went to the loo my wee was really dark and red tinged. Is it common to actually be able to see the blood in urine with and infection? I've never had one before and it kind of freaked me out. I just want to check this is nothing too bad to worry about as out of the county from tomorrow. The doctor didn't seem too concerned and just said to go and see a doctor on holiday if I continue to feel ill.

Thanks for your help

I posted the other day and got no reply but I'm not pregnant (hopefully am but too early to tell) i've got a suspected infection and started on antibiotics and they have made me sick, I have a fever and now am bleeding (period not due for 10 days), my wee is bright yellow. My doctor said I shouldnt go on holiday if still poorly after fri (we go to Egypt on tues) absolutely no chance I'm not going unless im so bad I'm in hospital! I haven't got blood in wee though have you tried speaking to your midwife?

No I've literally only just been to the docs and it's all come on very quickly. I think if I spoke to my midwife and said that the doc said it was fine to go on hol then she would just go with that.

But yes the bloody urine is concerning me...

hi, having blood tinged urine in a uti is really common. like your doc said, if youre no better in 1-2 days after starting the antibiotics seek further medical advice

Thanks emmalou. Was a bit shocking seeing it as I've managed to avoid them my whole life and all of my pregnancy so far.

I used to get UTIs all the time, always with blood in my urine and always needing antibiotics to clear up. I'm now on co-amoxiclav during pregnancy to keep it at bay as the doc says the danger of having an infection and leaving untreated are way worse than any minimal effect the antibiotics will have on the baby. So... it's better for your baby for you to take the antibiotics than not! Hope that sets your mind at rest.
