Positive pregnancy test AND positive ovulation test - which ones right?!

Hi all,

I have an 8mo son and have had 1 period since he was born which started on the 28th may (nothing since).

The last few days I've been feeling extra tired and quite sick. I have polycystic ovaries and when ttc my son I'd often have these symtons whilst I was ovulating.

So this morning I thought I'd do an ovulation test and a pregnancy test to see which one turned up positive.....they both bloody did!!! I then looked at the packaging and they're both out of date - ovulation by 1 month and pregnancy by 8 months.
Any ideas what this could mean?? I'm waiting in for a parcel, as soon as it arrives ill be off to get a new pregnancy test but any advice in the meantime would be great.

I'm 99% sure that the pregnancy one is...

An ovulation test can show up positive if you are pregnant due to some components of the HCG being read....doesnt work the other way arorund.

Get ones that aren't out of date and try again? Grin

Well - just the pregnancy one. Unless you want to be ovulating?

I think ov tests can be used to show pregnancy, although this is only info gleaned from conception threads on here.

Ugh I know, wish I had looked at the expiration date before I took the bloody things.

Just need this stupid parcel to arrive so I can nip out to the shops.

It took us 18 months to conceive ds, currently we're not ttc, rarely have sex and I'm not sure I'm ready for baby number 2........so its bound to be positive isn't it?!

Yes you are probably pregnant. Ovulation tests also detect hcg as similar to lh.

libelulle · 08/08/2012 11:49

I think there are common proteins that show up in wee during both ovulation and pregnancy, so yes, an ovulation test may show up positive if you are pregnant. See

www.peeonastick.com/opkhpt.html

for an explanation.

Have a look on the conception forum here (or post on it) -- lots of ttc old hands on there who talk about using ov tests to detect pregnancy.

I was just about to post the peeonastick link that's above, I think the HPT test is probably right. Tentative congrats!

Just to update those of you kind enough to reply - I am pregnant!

I am very shocked but both DH and I are happy about it. It's going to take a while to wrap my head around it tho!

What have I let myself in for lol :)
