Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable.

I would like to thank MOH MOP Ovaltine Caramellokoalalover (I think she's changed her nickname) Fluffy, Horsey Kali and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Tinkypet Oh you poor thing, I will ask my usual, have you got kesosticks because that sounds bad, you can get dehydrated very quickly and if it was controllable last time you can not realise how this can get tothe point where you need IV in hours. So even lollies and jelly or little sips are no good? Definitely sounds like the full blown fun with you this time, oh dear. Good idea to get meds asap, even before Fri if you can, and meanwhile do keep checking urine. Hope I don't sound bossy.
Glossy That's lovely of you, you'll be invaluable, and I am so happy this thread helped you even a little bit, and what is this article? Sounds good.
Reebok I know, it's very half hour at a time at this stage poor you.
Hope Ghoullel Moomins and Peppa are coping.

Tinkypet Re; my post below, you poor thing, do keep an eye on ketones through kesosticks which should be available from chemists ( I do hope Reebok has some now) and try and get an appointment with your GP as an emergency, it sounds like you need meds even to retain liquids. I forgot to say Nannyl I hope the good days are continuing?

Hi all. Sorry to hear people are not feeling that great. I have been a lot better and felt sick free yesterday but feel incredibly sick today and have almost retched- I know I am lucky and the meds are really controlling it. I have slept for two hours this afternoon but still feel so nauseous.

I think I may have overdone it - went into town yesterday and took dd to the aquarium this morning

Hope everyone is ok.

Oh my god the idiocy of this twat Morrissey!

m.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/dec/12/morrissey-royal-family-nurse-death

Says that Kate was hospitalised for no real reason, and she too arrogant to make a statement on the poor nurse's suicide.

Article here www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/local/royal-sickness-left-mum-to-be-in-hospital-and-unable-to-eat-1-4567891

It was just a brief interview in my local paper. xxx

LucindaE · 12/12/2012 17:21

Glossy Just read it - what a good article, well done for getting this out. You do look lovely - what do you mean about 'not glowing' when you look about twenty!
Peppa I'm so glad no voms but that sickness is wearing and if it gets to the point of retching, that is nasty.
Hope everyone else is still alive...(looks about anxiously).

Great article glossy

things still positive here... i have vomitted a few times today, but i can cope with that when i only feel "ill", rather than "horrendous like death"

TinkyPeet · 12/12/2012 18:23

Great article glossy. A few 'commenters' could so with a slap though!
Thanks luci da I will ask the chemist for some of those test thingys, I had no idea about them before and I'm gonna try and hold out till Friday for the docs as I won't have my kids with me then and as much as I love them they are a bit of a pain when sat having to wait in the docs and the youngest kicks up a stink xx

Reebok · 12/12/2012 20:08

Glad to hear you are better peppa and nannyl. Yep lucinda I have the sticks and am checking regularly. Any ideas for how to get rid of this blasted heartburn/acid reflux. Awful on top of the general HG symptons. I can't take gaviscon as vomit it up within seconds.

mrsdaisaku · 13/12/2012 09:01

Hello Ladies, Hyperemesis sufferer here from previous thread. Just to announce that I finally gave birth to my adorable Identical twin girls on Sunday, Violet 6lbs and Poppy 4lbs 1oz. Grin
Its hard to believe when you are 12weeks pregnant and feeling horrendous (I don't need to tell you ladies) that there is ever a finishing point. But as Lucinda always says, 'it will pass'. And it really will. Lean on the ladies here, they are a great support network and lend some amazing advice and wont judge you when you are feeling at your lowest. I am also happy to offer any support that I can, just message me on here and I will do what I can.
Just hoping that hearing someone has come out of it the other end with gorgeous twins would give you ladies hope. And suffice to say, I would do it again in a heartbeat just to feel that surge of love again. It really is worth it.
Good luck to all you current sufferers. Sending encouragement and gentle hugs to anyone needing them today. You are amazing women.

RoomForALittleOne · 13/12/2012 09:27

Ladies, can I ask for some advice? I'm currently 9+5 with DC4 Xmas Blush and feeling so stupid for even considering another pregnancy might be OK. I had hyperemesis with DD1 and DD2 but always managed to just about stay out of hospital and on meds at home. I went to the GP at 8+2 who offered to admit me then because of the ketones in my urine. I declined and asked for meds at home. I've had one good day since then. I'm feeling thoroughly fed-up, down and useless. Yesterday, I couldn't keep anything down and today is turning out the same.

What bothers me, is that if I went in to hospital for rehydration, I would look like a total fake. I find that if I just don't eat or drink then I'm not sick that much (If I do, the sickness is awful so I keep hoping that this will pass). What will the attitude of the hospital be. Will I look like a fake if I'm not vomiting every 5 mins? Will they expect me to eat/drink all the time?

MotherofPearl · 13/12/2012 09:46

MrsD, I remember you from the old thread - many congratulations on the birth of your twins! You really did suffer badly, and it's always so nice to hear about women finally getting to the end of the journey and being able to celebrate their prize (prizes in your case!). :)

nannyl · 13/12/2012 10:20

Room for a little one

there is nothing "fake" about going to hospital.

I have been admitted both pregnancies and its amazing how quickly you feel better once you get fluids back in. (its worth it)

I have a midwife friend who says there is always someone in with hyperemisis, you wont be the first or the last, and i was always treated with sympathy.
No one ever suggested i was making it up, or faking it or anything, because you cant really fake dehydration and peeing keytones. They can give you IV drugs which stop you vomiting and then hopefully you might be able to eat / drink too

(at least in hospital the Drs understand it is a condition..... (though my GPs have under stood too, but it seems im "lucky" there) you need to look after yourself and your baby and if you are dehydrated enough to go in, go in, how you coped in previous pregnancies is not really any relation to how your body is coping with this baby)

Hope you feel better soon

LucindaE · 13/12/2012 10:27

Room Welcome, just one moment while I congratulate Mrs D Thanks Thanks 'wine] the first twins on this thread! Hello Poppy and Violet. Enjoy them and thanks so much for this lovely supportive post and happy news.
Room Of course, you wont look like a fraud. It's possible to get dehydrated without constant vomiting if you are feeling to sick to take in much liquids. I take it you've got kesosticks as you've had it twice, and that you've got a high reading? My suggestion is go right to A and E and they aren't going to be dismissive with your history. Other signs of dehydration are the dry skin, headache (I mixed it up with migraine) and blurry vision. Not everyone seems to get this, though. When it gets really bad, you get a bit confused, hope you are not at that stage yet!
Tinky Don't let it get really bad before you go for meds. How are you today, are the liquids staying down at all? Ice lollies, slow sips any use at all?
Reebok Some people have been put on heartburn stuff, I know what you mean about gaviscon, I brought up a nice half bowl of foam once Shock which I assume came from that, I couldn't imagine where it was coming from.
How are things today?
Peppa and Nannyl I hope continuing to recover.
MOP Lovely to hear from you, as always! Hugs. HOw is LO?

LucindaE · 13/12/2012 11:43

Room I'm glad you're going for fluids. No wonder you feel low, you are at the worst stage and y ou've got two LO's to look after. Cyber hugs on offer. Can you post us from there to let us know how you get on? Obviously, don't if you can't face it.

Quick post from hospital - care is interesting. I'm on bag 2 of fluids and am sat in a waiting area as they don't want to admit me but I'm too dehydrated to send away! I haven't been allowed to try eating or drinking yet...

LucindaE · 13/12/2012 18:09

Room Thanks for posting, second bag of fluids, so glad you are getting some rehydrating. It is a bit awful you are having to sit there waiting to see what'll happen. Hope you feel a little better?

Welcome Room and pugs! Glad you have gotten to hosp Room...hopefully now you will start to feel better.

Congrats mrs D! That's wonderful news. And we appreciate your support and kind words.

On a seperate note, just need to rant...my husband is doing my head in! I actually can't stand being in the same house as him. Doesn't matter what he does...he just needs to speak...strike that, breathe and it makes me mad! Cannot stand to sleep near him as his breathe and smells make me nauseous. He thinks I'm joking when I say it but not. I do love him, but Everytime I look at him, I think 'you're the reason I feel so rubbish! And you've gotten off Scott free! You can eat and drink what you want! And sleep through the night yet I have to suffer with the vomiting, nausea, food aversion, dehydration, heartburn, reflux, back ache, insomnia!!!' arghhh is it just me or has anyone else felt like this?? I sound like a mad woman but I seriously want to punch him Everytime he looks at me!

Reebok · 13/12/2012 20:02

Sorry guys for the rant. Had a good day yesterday where I didn't throw up once and rarely felt nauseous only for it to come back full in today. :(
