Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable.

I would like to thank MOH MOP Ovaltine Caramellokoalalover (I think she's changed her nickname) Fluffy, Horsey Kali and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Peppa Welcome back, goodness, that was a drama about your admission, eh? I got quite anxious. Really feel for you and Reebok and am sending gentle cyber pats if acceptable. You will start getting better days, but this is the worst bit, when dehydration is a constant threat and every hour drags and you don't see an end to it, but honestly, you will start getting better days. While some poor women suffer throughout, hardly anyone feels as bad as they did at the point where you are now.
I can't believe that about the ginger comments, particularly in hospital. As if you didn't try everything and found that NONE of it works! Angry I had a truly nightmarish experience with a piece of crystalized ginger on someone's silly advice, and to this day can't even smell the stuff!
Ghoule How are you today?

i have hypersalivation too, as i did last time

its just awful as swallowing makes me vomit

as gross as it sounds i just have a pot and spit it all out.

when im about to be sick, saliva literally flows out of my mouth, like a really drewely dog (sorry tmi) and i think regardless of vomiting, the hyper-salivation is at least as much as a cause of dehydration.

apparently HG and hypersalivation often go together

LucindaE · 09/12/2012 15:05

Nannyl Poor old you, that sounds foul, I only had that now and then and like you, used to spit in a bowl. Don't every worry about tmi on here, there can't be such a thing. How far along are you now?

Know what you mean Nannyl. I have my spit bucket too and I see my DH cringe everytime I spit. Can't be helped though.

This cyclizine leaves a weird taste in my mouth that makes me want to vomit. Feeling so nauseous. Dunno how I will survive tomorrow at the booking in app with midwife. May need to take my bucket with me.

Reebok · 09/12/2012 15:16

Lucinda im holding you to that thought! Really hope you're right!

ghoulelocks · 09/12/2012 16:11

Hi, sorry not online much as my 2 yr old has a vomiting bug. It's like a plague house here!

ghoulelocks · 09/12/2012 16:16

oh and I'm going to stretch the 'nothing is too much information' rule on this thread to breaking point. Is anyone else crippled with constipation? I've tried so much and went for max strength senokat....

Don''t.

It clears you out but not the lightest way. Took 48hrs still and a sore end with a bloody mess.

Reebok · 09/12/2012 16:37

Never tmi Ghoule! I'm very constipated too! Think it's a side effect of cyclizine though

LucindaE · 09/12/2012 17:19

Reebok and Ghoule Of course not tmi, it cuold be both the drugs and not getting a normal amounto fluids. Lots of people have it, and usually those suppositaries from chemists do the trick(bu don't tell them y9u're preg when buying or they'll be silly about them, although they're used regularly in hospitals. They've worked for most of the people here, but poor Kali had it so badly that she had to get in a bowel rinsing out thing on line, which did hte job at last. It does make you feel so much worse, like excess saliva and everything smelling foul (my OH smelt to me of roast pork lol).
*Reebok and peppa I'm betting you will be feeling better in a while. I know every day seems an age at the moment.
Reebok Take some doubled up plastic carrier bags for appointment, I never ventured anwyhere without them after the Puking in Bin experiences early on Shock.

Ghoule Oh dear, two of you at it, that is not nice. I hope OH is being angelic and clearing up...
Nannyl It's interesting that you and Ghoule are teachers, there is a high percentage of teachers on here...

Will do Lucinda. Dreading the constant gagging though. That's 3 teachers by the way. I'm a teacher also.

Has anyone heard of Benadryl being used for treating hyperemesis? Been searching dr google as usual for anything that can make this hell disappear and came across a lady suffering from hyperemesis being prescribed benadryl and what's more it worked!

ghoulelocks · 09/12/2012 17:33

Poor DH is starting to look peaky himself. It's one of those bugs that is a joint clear up, I feel so sorry for him. He's all hot and upset and keeps saying 'sorry. sorry Mummy' as he pukes even though we tell him it's ok and whip it away

nannyl · 09/12/2012 17:39

I was a nursery nurse (in kindergarten in an independant school) for a year

For the previouse 10 years i was a nanny

(and for the forseeable future im a stay at home mummy)

Oh and im sure someone asked, im now 12 weeks 1 day Smile

this past week has really been much better than any other
yesturday we took DD to the festival of light (ie i walked round outside slowly for 30mins or so).... it completely set me back Sad... had a horrendous evening last night, vomited everything and even OH moving / breathing in bed was making me feel awful (like i felt constantly for 2m last time) but thankfully 12 hours of sleep helped, and im not as bad today.

i think feeling that briefly last night made me realise how much better this pregnancy has been than last....
still horrendous, and not good, but also a lot better than last pregnancy.
I havent had a whole day in bed for weeks now

(hoping this gives hope to anyone else who may be brave enough to have another child in future.... even this degree of HG has made me never ever want to be pg again)

Reebok · 09/12/2012 17:48

Sorry to hear you're all unwell now Ghoule. Hope you feel better soon.

Nannyl glad you've had a better week. Unfortunately this experience has put me off having anymore children so praying it's successful unlike last time. Getting scared as it was around this time I'd found out I had a mmc.

EsteraEmmerson · 09/12/2012 22:51

I'm a teacher, too. Well, used to. Have been a full-time mum for exactly four years and one month today. Xmas Smile

EsteraEmmerson · 09/12/2012 22:57

@MOH100 Thanks.

MotherofPearl · 10/12/2012 08:26

Oh dear, so sorry to see so many are suffering so badly. It is just the most horrendous, terrible, horrific condition and I really don't think anyone other than sufferers and ex-sufferers understands this. Reebok and Nanny, the hypersalivation thing is so bad - when I was at my worst and waiting to be admitted via A & E I remember sitting in the waiting area with a pink plastic tupperware under my chin and drool just pouring out into it. I didn't bother with trying to wipe my mouth or anything, and the worst thing in a way was that I felt so sick I didn't care at all what I looked like at all. Swallowing it immediately set off the gag reflex so I had to let it out. Hang in there, you are at the very worst stage, and even if you are sick throughout, you will not be this bad all the way through, I promise.
Waves to Lucinda.

LucindaE · 10/12/2012 09:41

Nannyl and Estra, Ghoule The idea of teaching when suffering from this torment... Nannyl With luck it may well be easing off. With lucky people, msyelf indlcuded, it goes sometime during the fourteenth week and I have even known people who had it go at twelve!
Reebok Hugs, I know just how you feel, I had an MMC just before the pregnancy with the fun run with Hyperemesis, an MMC is cruel and makes you so anxious about the second, but I remember a doctor saying to me that often the body needs a trial run, and she'd just had one herself, which I found oddly comforting. Sending hugs, it's awful to be in a position where you are not only very sick but worrying about miscarriage, too. The worst of both worlds. I do hope Pregnancy Sickness SOS contacts can do something to influence the infuriating complacence.
Peppa You are quiet. I hope comparatively OK?
MOP Thank you so much for lovely supportive message. You are one of the ones who did continue to suffer, though not as badly, and you know...
Ghoule How are the ketones? Everyone?

Reebok And another teacher, sorry, just seen that message! Fluffy was one, back to being one i think, Caesar and Slippers who were on this thread some time ago were ones, Melange was one, Kali lectured young people, I remember a cookery teacher on here, and that's just off the top of my head.

I haven't been near a ketostick to be honest. Poor baby is so unwell. Just washing bedding after bedding, bleaching the bathroom and cuddling him 24/7. He cries and say 'I sorry Mummy' everytime and can't understand it's ok to be sick.

I'm dreading catching his bug on top.

ghoulelocks · 10/12/2012 11:25

I don't know if this sounds silly but I'm starting to worry about labour, I'm 36 weeks and still being sick. I worry if I don't have the energy will it affect labour starting, or stall contractions. I've a feeling it won't mix well with a home birth.

Last time I didn't have HG (or barely MS!) yet I vomited all through labour, I remember my contractions completely going at 9/10 cm though I don't know if it was the cause. I refused a c section unless the baby was in distress and a lovely midwife helped me through with the aid of a drip. I don't know if the vomiting was the cause but I was told I was too exhausted to give birth (not as exhausted as I was shit-scared of a c-section it turned out). It was 33hours all in all. I don't mind a hospital birth really but I just want info.

nannyl · 10/12/2012 11:41

ghoulelocks

i had a homebirth last time, and was sick until the end (last vomit 1 hour before she popped out)

however in those last weeks i was only sick once or twice a day, and could functions relatively normally.

I had the easiest birth out of anyone ive ever herd of. (only 1 midwife made it though, i wasnt sure if i was in labour; was 7cm, 20mins later dd had landed on the sofa and i was a mummy)
I figured an easy birth made up for my horrendous pregnancy
(another of my HG friends also had a very easy birth)

planning a home birth with this one too.

i know we are all different, but i was fine Smile

and then it was bliss... DD born at 2237, when i woke up in the morning the sickness had gone!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin

Reebok · 10/12/2012 12:04

Thanks mop and Lucinda. Just praying for a quick end to it by 12 weeks!! You've given me some hope Lucinda that the hG can end quickly. Here's praying I'm one of the lucky few. Trying to force myself out of bed for this midwife app. Feel so run down though after another night of vomiting.

Reebok · 10/12/2012 12:04

Nannyl I keep dreaming of that after labour feeling of no more sickness!! Bliss!

nannyl · 10/12/2012 12:23

its as amazing as you imagine it to be Smile

and i agree, although i was sick and on max meds until the end.... after about 20 weeks, i didnt actually feel as poorly as the first weeks, its true, the beginning is the worst, and for me at least, while i continued vomiting i didnt feel like death and could eat and drink most things most of the time, and was up and about, rather than in bed all the time.

This time I am certainly a bit better already. which amazes me... i wasnt expecting to feel anything better than "like death" until at least 16 weeks like last time.

It can change and can change when you least expect it!

Reebok · 10/12/2012 12:39

Making a massive prayer for all the current hG sufferers that our suffering comes to a quick end ASAP!
