Bleeding after trans vaginal scan?

Anyone experienced this? Scan showed heartbeat and all in the right place and dated pregnancy at 6+1. It was a bit painful though and then later that evening I had some fairly significant bleeding and pain. It was over by the next morning though, or the same night really, which isnt what happened with the 8 week miscarriage I had a few years ago. Bleeding was bright red to start with and then dark brown fairly quickly. No clots. Sorry for TMI! This was all nearly a week ago and I've had no bleeding or pain since and still feel like i have pregnancy symptoms (sore boobs, nausea, stupidly tired). Has anyone else experienced anything similar after a TV scan? Trying to decide whether to bite the bullet and just have another scan so I know one way or the other or just wait and see what happens (although I don't think I'm that patient!)

Quite normal, probably your cervix took a bashing in the scan and it can be very irritable at this stage:

Excellent, thanks roger that's very reassuring. I couldn't find much online that said anything about it so was worrying. Cheers!Smile

I definitely wouldnt have another TV scan though if it did that to you.

I had this in DD's pregnancy (now a 2yo charging round the living room!).

Same as you bright red blood tailing off to brown, I did get a follow up scan from EPU as I'd had a miscarriage a few month earlier - sorry to hear about your - and everything was fine.

Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.

Thanks Pogo, glad to hear yours all turned out well and you're enjoying the joys of toddlerhood! Smile. I think I will wait a week or two and then go for a normal scan, if I can get the EPU to do one. Can anyone remember at what stage they go from doing TV to normal external ones? Is it about 8 weeks? Thanks again all!

I had a one on Sunday and I bled after. I'm about 6 weeks, the bleeding is dark brown. Its probably normal :)

RileyLeeHargreaves2012 · 07/08/2012 17:26

Also theyll probably do a normal scan around 8 weeks. I have another one at 8/9 hoping the baby is still in there as its moved down my womb and theres a bleed next to the baby... don't fancy another Tv scan

kalidasa · 07/08/2012 18:24

I had scans at (just) 6 weeks and again at (just) 8 weeks. The first was TV the second they did the more dignified way. He said he would try from outside because I was slim. Apparently if you're a bit heavier they are more likely to need to do the TV scan for a bit longer.

Hope it all goes well for you.

worriedwretch · 07/08/2012 18:30

I didn't have bleedin after a TV scan at 6 weeks but I did have terrible period pain feeling & cramps for a good 12 hours after

Hope all works out for you :)

Whirliwig72 · 07/08/2012 18:32

Sounds like a touchy cervix to me - I had early bleeding with both my healthy sons esp after dildo cam. Good luck - here's hoping the next few weeks fly by for you Smile

DontSayWhatSayPardon · 07/08/2012 19:19

Thanks again everyone, really helpful comments. I will try and hang on until I can have a normal scan and see what's what. Hope all works out with you too Riley and Wretch!

(Grin at dildo cam!)

Just stay positive. Everything will be fine, you'll have a little one crying in your arms in 34 weeks :-)

theTramp · 08/08/2012 23:28

This is exactly what happened with me. I am still bleeding off & on two weeks later but no pain. I am going in for another scan next week to see if all is well.

DontSayWhatSayPardon · 09/08/2012 11:52

Just to update. Had another TV scan today. All still there! Was aiming for an appt next week so I could have a normal scan but against all odds the GP got one for today and said it couldn't be changed. It didn't hurt this time so I'm hoping there won't be any bleeding. Anyway at least the
wee thing is ok and my mind is at rest, which is the main thing. I also got to speak to the gyn about my underactive thyroid, which was a bonus, cos the GP was completely dismissive of it when i'm pretty sure it needs checking in early pregnancy.turns out I'm right.

Thanks again and good luck to you all! Smile
