TMI is this piles?

A couple of times recently I have noticed blood in my poo in the toilet (bright red) and sometimes when I wipe. Is this normal for pregnancy? Should I go to the docs or is it nothing I worry about.

I double check and it seems it's def coming from that end and not vaginally (luckily as am rhesus neg). I'm 27 weeks, this is a new one to me!

I also get bleeding gums a lot and have had a couple of nosebleeds - I guess this is due to the same thing maybe?

Hi, its completely normal and its not pilesl, something to do with the extra blood flow during pregnancy. I wouldn't worry at all but maybe mention it at your next midwife appointment just to put your mind at rest.

ah right so is like the bleeding gums/nosebleed thing then? I suppose piles means pain at other times too which I don't have.

Wow pregnancy is so glamorous! Blush

My rather blunt doctor said "you'd know if you had piles, it's like passing fish-hooks". Lovely description, I know, but they really are very painful. Passing stools is torture if you have piles. I would definitely mention bleeding to midwife though, just to rule anything out. My gums do bleed a lot during brushing. Had exactly the same with dc1.

The nosebleed thing I think is due to have more blood flowing in the body and small vessels in the nose are prone to bursting/breaking....not quite sure about the gums, maybe something to do with softening of gums tissue etc making it more susceptible to infection and bleeding....??

I've not had painful piles (TMI alert sorry) but I have just noticed a small bit of protruding skin from my bottom!!! WTF is it?? It isn't sore at all, doesn't hurt when I go to the loo, but it doesn't look right! Is it a friendly pile? Is there such a thing??

It's outrageous what we have to put with!

Belchica sounds like a friendly pile LOL sorry. It is awful. I currently have a fissure (tear in the skin down there) and it is like passing glass wrapped in barbed wire every time. Nothing's working so far, coming up to a month :S

Thanks LolaAnn. I thought as much but was in happy denial...if I can't see it and it doesn't hurt....

Should I go to docs about it? Apply cream?

wash your bum with shower and hot water after every poo. If this isn't practical use baby wipes instead of bog roll. This will help it heal. drink lot of water.

I get it now and again if I do a bigger sized one (must be like a tiny tear), it's definitely worse now in pregnancy. I don't think it's piles, just a small cut. It's annoying but I'm not worrying about it.

Oh and also get bleeding gums and nose regularly too. Plus bruise more easily.
